Cortez woke up a little early and when she looked up at her phone she growled disapprovingly. It was Sunday, and according to her phone, the sun has not even risen yet. She wanted to sleep in and pretty much do nothing as the last few days she had to do physical therapy. The casts are now finally off and she had to work on those muscles as they were immobilized for 3 weeks. At first, they were just full water bottles working on grip, biceps, and forearm strengthening, and yesterday she worked with the 5lb. Dumbbell. Big mistake.
Luckily her boyfriend was there to either use his heat for massaging the soreness away and ice to slow the inflammation. However, sometimes she feels like he is overbearing. It is not his fault, he and the rest of the Todoroki family were helping her a lot when her arms were damaged to the point where even Recovery Girl just said that she was unable to help and they needed to heal naturally, but she wanted to get some of that independence back. Well, at least she is able to fly again after her wings grew back stronger than ever.
She sighed and sat up and thought about what she wanted to do today. She wanted to give her arms a break, and according to her weather app, it would be perfect sunny weather to go to the beach for either a fly or tanning. The issue is, will the heat be too much for Shouto and the rest of the siblings, as she feels like doing something with them together but she is worried if they will be ok because of their Quirk. Or maybe go to a movie, or mall, or maybe....just stay home and do nothing.
That sounded like a good plan, and they have a peaceful garden with a swinging egg chair big enough and it faces east. Perfect. She got up, got dressed, and went to the small bookshelf of her favorite books. There wasn't much but they were fantasy and adventure books. Her favorite series right now was about a boy who survived death and was cut off from his true world until 10 years later when a giant man picked him up and told him he had magical powers.
She somehow feels linked to him. Even though it is a fantasy book she could not help but feel some kind of kinship. He lived with relatives who treat him like dirt, she lived with a father who used her as a punching bag. He had no friends until he arrived at school and now has 2 best friends, she has a boyfriend, and Tsuyu-Chan and Izu-Kun were her best friends. The only thing different is their adventures.
She grabbed the next book in line where the boy was in his fourth year and walked out of her room to the back garden. The sun still has not shown its face but you can start to see the multiple colors painting the morning sky. Cortez walked along a small path to where the egg chair was and got into a comfortable position for her to be able to read.
She only read for about 20 minutes when the flowing stream alongside the chair was causing her to get sleepy, or was it because she woke up early? Either way, she was getting drowsy and eventually, she fell asleep in the chair and did not wake up until around 2 hours later and Shouto was sitting next to her, looking at her with a soft smile.
"Canelo?" Cortez asked, then noticed the area was surrounded by sunlight. "I have been out for a while, haven't I?" She asked with a deadpan expression.
"Yes, and nearly scared all of us when you weren't in your room." Shouto said and the girl hung her head.
"Sorry, I woke up early so I decided to read and watch the sunrise. I must have been still tired if that happened."
"It is to be expected, you did do physical therapy pretty hard yesterday."
"It still hurts," Cortez replied, scrunching up her face in the process.
Shouto chuckled, grabbing her hands and slowly massaging them. "Then let today be an off day. I wouldn't mind not doing anything for once."
Cortez giggled and blushed. "Fine, but in one condition."
Shouto looked at her in confusion. "Condition?"
She held up the book towards him. "You will have to read the book with me, I still have a hard time keeping it up to read it right."
It was Shouto's turn to blush. "S-sure."
Then again, Cortez thought as she listened to her boyfriend's reading. I actually like being a little spoiled.
And so they sat in the Egg swing for the rest of the day while the dual-haired teen read the book aloud until it was finished and Cortez cries over the death of one of her favorite Hufflepuff characters.
