Next day, after an early lunch, Samaira made some brownies for Sara and Sahil. It was their favourite. Farida told them there was a get-together tonight, which was an usual occurrence. So, Sahil and Sara didn't doubt their mother's extra efforts in cooking.
They were both in their rooms when Samaira called Sara to Sahil's room for eating the brownies. Samaira used to bake out of nowhere, without any reason, so they didn't have any suspicions.
"Dude, stop eating so much! You're getting FAT!!", Sahil teased Sara.
"I'm not fat, YOU ARE!", Sara showed him her tongue.
"Puh-lease! This ain't fat, it's called muscles!", Sahil flexed his arms in return.
To which Sara just rolled her eyes.
They were bickering while eating brownies.Samaira shook her head at their antics. She would miss this.
How would I be able to live without them?
She had just realised, she have to leave this house and go away once she gets married.
Will I be able to do it? Handle such a big responsibility?
"Sam! Where are you lost?", Sahil shook her holding her shoulders which broke her trance.
"Huh? Nowhere," she shook her head unattentively.
Her siblings stared at her unconvinced.
She sighed and finally decided to tell them,
"Um...I have something to tell you guys."
"What? You're getting married?", Sara joked.
"Maybe?", Samaira said sheepishly.
"Haha very funny," Sara wanted to laugh but couldn't, seeing Samaira's face,
"Actually? I mean, you're going to sooner or later InShaAllah, but....."
Sara didn't finish her sentence, not knowing what to say anymore. She looked at Sahil who was already looking at a guilty Samaira."A proposal came for you", Sahil stated without any emotion.
"Um...yeah," Samaira bit her lip in anticipation.
"And? What did you say? Did you say yes?", he again asked.
Samaira nodded cautiously. She was afraid of Sahil's quiet reaction. This was the calm before the storm. The both of them have been really close since forever. And if Samaira hides something from Sahil, he gets upset. And this time, it was one of the biggest things of her life! She didn't even want to think how hard it will be to pacify him.
Sahil exhaled a breath,
"Why are you telling us?", he said in a cold tone.
"Sahil!"
"Bhai!", both his sisters looked at him with widened eyes. Samaira with plea and Sara with disbelief.
"I just said yes to ammi and abbu this morning!" Samaira tried to resonate.
"Okay. And when did the proposal come?", he interrogated her.
"
3 days ago," Samaira quietly said, looking down.Sahil looked at her with disappointment.
"I was confused! My thoughts were all over the place and I didn't know what to do. I know I should've told you sooner, but I just....", Samaira sighed.
She knew she should have told him sooner, but she really didn't know what to do. She knew he knew about her feelings for Zain. And if she gets her heart broken or rejected by Zain, he would be more upset than herself. She was happy when Zain sent the proposal, but she was unaware of Zain's feelings, so she didn't want to get his hopes high.
