It felt like waves were crashing over me everytime I tried making it to shore. In that metaphor, the shore would be not being as awkward as I usually am in situations like this. Knowing that in an hour from now Jordy would be dragging me along with our coworkers to go on rides and play games. I have a fear of heights. So, ferris wheels were out of the question, as well as most of those rides. You can't judge me for being scared of heights. Most people are afraid of spiders, but no matter how big and scary they are, I'm never afraid to smack my shoe against one.
"You look nice." My roommate said from behind me as he had sat at his desk. "I'm going to pick up Kaitlyn and we'll drive together. Meet me at the front by the bag check." he stated towards me as he knelt down and fixed his shoelaces.
"I was going for scary." I added as the other grabbed his things and made his way out the dorm, letting out a sigh when the door closed. Maybe this was a bad idea. Should I call in sick now? Say... I sprained my ankle excitedly running to my car to get to the fair?
No, that was really unbelievable. Stomach ache? I felt like my stomach was aching. Whenever I get nervous going out like this, I always feel sick to my stomach. Might've been anxiety but I'm not a doctor, and I'm not looking too into it. That could've been my problem. Deciding against myself, I decided that I should go. That talk with Laurie the other day... I don't know, it shook me up. Was this what I was waiting for? A crowded, loud, hot night at the fair with coworkers? Or, was I just giving that woman too much credit and she was just spouting out random shit?
I was already in the car, so there wasn't any turning back now. Literally. I was stuck in traffic. Laying my head against my headrest as my hand impatiently patted the steering wheel. My knee bouncing as I just sat there for what felt like forever, but in reality it was 5 minutes. "Are you fucking kidding me?" I muttered to myself quietly, glancing out the window for a moment. Looking at the hills in the distance. Once I got a chance to switch lanes, I soon arrived to the fair.
Parking was a bitch. Finding the bag check was a bitch. Though, I wasn't annoyed by all the screams as I thought I was going to be. It sounded fun. Sitting on a bench outside the gates, just waiting for Jordy and his girlfriend, Kaitlyn. Sure, they were broken up now, but that happened every week. We were both lame and unpopular, but that didn't stop Jordy from finding someone as crazy as he was. Tapping my fingers against the backrest of the bench, waiting and waiting. Watching as people continued passing by me to get inside the fair.
I continued checking my watch, but that just seemed to make time go by slower. Deciding to call Jordy, I scoffed. What was he doing? It's been almost an hour.
"Adam! I'm running late." Jordy said hastily to me. Later on he'd tell me that he was actually still at Kaitlyn's house, doing things that I would never repeat out loud. "I'll be there in an hour! Wait for me!" The man said before hanging up, turning back towards Kaitlyn with a grin. "Now where were we, My Piggly Wiggly?" he whispered, feeding a strawberry to the woman.
"What? Are you serious, Jordy?" I asked in an annoyed way as I was hung up on, slapping my phone onto my lap. What was he trying to do to me? Trying to see how long it took for me to hold back from strangling him? Running my hand over my face. Tonight couldn't get any worse.
"Adam?"
Glancing over to the voice behind me, my eyes laid upon a guy that was about 5'11", brown and fluffy hair. Green eyes. He gave me a smile as he motioned over towards the phone that was on my lap, laying one of his hands on the backrest of the bench. "I heard Jordy's name and yours too, on your phone call." he explained.
