The two stood looking out at the Earth, even though it was risky. If they were caught again, their freedom would be taken away. Being captured until the moment you die, being unable to say your last words, unable to even choose how you spend your last moments. It would be unbearable.
Connor looked over at the Earth. It had made a miraculous recovery after the humans left. He was glad. He had always hated others for killing the planet, and now they really were going to finish it off.
One bomb, and then it's done. One bomb, and no more will the Earth exist. It's just a matter of time...
"Are we really going to die when the Earth blows up?" Kate asked, her voice shaky.
"Well, since the moon orbits around the Earth, then it will probably be either blown up with the Earth, or it will just float off in space until it hits something or it gets sucked into another planets orbit. There isn't a definite answer right now but-"
"Connor. You don't have to explain every detail."
"Sorry. I've always been interested in things like this. You know, what happens when you do something, why things happen, I'm just always curious."
"I think that's just a normal human trait. I know that all of the humans that kidnapped me and experimented on me were all doing it not only to satisfy their need for knowledge, but to save themselves. That's another human trait." Kate started. She looked off into the distance, on arm protectively holding her bandaged arm.
"Humans all want to stay alive. For them, dying is the worst thing that can happen. I think it's because of their short lifespan. It's a trait that I guess I can't understand clearly. I know I don't want to die, but I guess I wouldn't care if I did." Kate finished.
"Wait. Back up a bit. You said that they were trying to save themselves?" Connor asked.
"Yeah. You didn't know? They were hoping to trade research on me for their lives. The knew the Earth was going to be bombed. So they wanted to take me and their research to Mars, but they didn't get a chance." Kate said.
"Now I kind of feel bad." Connor said. Because he jumped ship, he went and saved Kate, and in turn destroyed their only chanmce at survival.
There was a long silence. Kate was staring at the Earth, and from the look in her eyes, she seemed to be thinking.
Kate turned to face Connor. She had a smile on her face, and she looked him in the eye.
"I'm glad I met you Connor." She said.
"Kate, why does that sound like a goodbye?" Connor asked.
"Because silly, it is." At that, the Earth exploded into little pieces of rock. The core of the Earth was revealed, and it slowly melted away into the vacuum of space. There was fire lingering in the air, burning on the last of the oxygen, making it look like some fancy light show. But it wasn't.
Time had sped up for Connor. The moon spun out of control, heading straight for a crash course to the sun. This is it. Connor thought. He fell down due to the explosion, and cut his leg on a rock. At one point, he completely lost sight of Kate.
She wasn't anywhere. She wasn't tumbling around trying to stay standing like Connor, and he couldn't hear her either.
"Kate..." Connor said. His voice came out as a whisper, barely audible. Connor ducked as some rubble from the Earth came hurtling towards him, but he was too slow and it hit him in the back of his head.
He was bleeding. Blood was pouring from his head and he was starting to feel dizzy. His vision was going blurry and his ears had stopped working. He was likely going to die.
My life... Is it really over? Connor thought. He started seeing black spots over his eyes. It's over. All of this is over. Connor's vision finally disappeared until all that he could see was black.
But as he lost consciousness, one thing haunted his thoughts. Where had Kate gone? She had mysteriously disappeared just after the explosion.
Then it was over. Connor lost consciousness. This was the end. The end of everything, is life, Kate's life, and the Earth.
This was the end of everything Connor had knew, it was the end of everything.
