Chapter 14

    The door swung open, revealing two men. One was wearing only his underwear, and they were both panting as if they had just run a marathon. Connor pulled his hat over his face. It was them.

    It was the two men whom Connor had left hidden behind a crate, unconscious, after stealing the one’s clothes. He knew they would wake up eventually, but he had hoped to have found Kate and at least be escaping by that point. This stupid meeting had taken up too much of his time, time he could have used finding Kate.

    “Sir! There’s an intruder! He knocked me unconscious and stole my clothes!” The one in his underwear said, saluting to the people sitting at the table. At this, a large, muscular man sat up from in his chair.

    “What? You idiots… Why couldn’t you catch him?” The muscular man said.

    “Sorry captain. He said he was here to take us to Mars… To the other humans! You know how much we want to rejoin humanity… So we let our guard down. He took that chance and knocked us unconscious with a metal pipe.” The fully-clothed one said.

    “You!” The captain said pointing to the fully-clothed man. “What’s your name?”

“Mark.” The man, Mark, answered.

“Go and search the building for the intruder. You go with him.” He said pointing to the other man. “After you get a change of clothes.” The two men saluted and ran off out of the door. With all the running they do, no wonder they always seem out of breath.

“You, over there, coffee boy. You go and guard the alien. I am trusting her safety with you.” He said, pointing to Connor. Score! Now I have direct access to Kate. This will be easy from now on. All I have to do is pretend to be guarding Kate, and then take my chance and get her out of here! Judging by this meeting, I doubt that she is being treated well. Connor thought to himself. Even though this was the best thing that has happened to him yet, he had to keep a straight face. No matter how much he wanted to, he couldn’t just jump all around the room yelling “BEST DAY EVER!!” That would blow his cover.

“Umm, sir? Where exactly is the alien being kept?” Connor asked. Hopefully it wasn’t common knowledge.

    “Ah, yes. Normal lackies like you don’t have access to information like that. Go down the hall just outside of this door, and take a left. You will reach the main area, then go through the door marked ‘six’. follow that, and you will reach a door covered with locks. That is the room it is being kept in.” The captain said.

“Also, here is the master override for the locks. It will unlock the door for you. It also works on the laboratories locks, in case you need to bring the alien to testing, although with the intruder, I don’t think that will be likely.” He finished.

The override was just a small card that hung from a lanyard. It was white with a red stripe. On the stripe it said, “LOCK OVERRIDE”. The Captain handed it to Connor and he took it. He then walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

Conner walked out the door and followed the Captain’s directions into the main room. It was huge, and there were a few vending machines along the walls. On the side Connor was on, there were three doors, and three on the other side. Connor had just walked out of door number four. He looked around for door six and soon found it.

He walked through the door and down the hall. At the end of the hall was a door with many locks, just as the captain had said. He pulled out the lock override, and swiped it through a scanner. It beeped and a monotone voice said,

“OVERRIDE SUCCESSFUL. DOOR UNLOCKED. REMEMBER TO LOCK THE DOOR AFTER YOU ARE DONE WITH THE ALIEN.”

Connor opened the door and walked inside. The room was dark and covered in dust. On the bed across the room was Kate, and it looked like she was sleeping. Beside the bed was the tall man he seen at the meeting. He must have snuck out without Connor noticing at some point.

“Who do we have here, I wonder. Please state your business, as we have to follow rules you know.” Still using we have in every sentence. Is that just coincidence? Connor thought.

“I was ordered to guard the alien by the Captain. Apparently there is an intruder in the building.” As he said this, Connor looked for anything to knock out the tall man.

“Ahh I see. And unfortunately for you, I can’t let you live now.” He stopped using we have.

“What! Why? I was just following orders! I promise not to tell anybody what I see here! I will do whatever you ask! Please, just let me live!” Connor said, shocked.

“If you promise to get her out of here, then I can let you go.” He said, and his tone of voice changed. “Or at least bring her to the intruder.”

“What? I thought you were testing on her and everything! Why are you trying to get her out of here?” Connor asked.

“Because, as you know, the people on Mars are planning to blow up the Earth. And with it, the moon will also be destroyed. I want her to live out the rest of her life in freedom, not suffering for the sake of science. After the Earth is destroyed, all our research will go to waste anyway.” He said. He was honestly concerned about her.

“I promise I will get her out of here. That was my goal for even coming to this place anyway. I came here to get her out anyway.” Connor said.

“So you’re the intruder. It looks like we have a sucker, Murashi!” The man said as he began to laugh maniacally. “MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

A large, muscular man walked out from in the closet. It was the man that had moved Kate earlier. He walked over to the tall man, and cracked his knuckles.

“We have found quite the idiot here. We have actually found someone who believes this crap!” The tall man said. It was then he recognized him. He was the one who originally captured Kate. At that point he wasn’t using the weird ‘We Have’ speech impairment, and he was wearing a spacesuit.

“You… You're the one who captured Kate! Tell me, why do you want her so badly?” Connor said.

“With this, I can save us. If we give the alien to the people on Mars they will surely accept us into humanity once again! We were all over the age limit, and apparently are tainted by the Earth’s poison. But with this,” He walked over to Kate, “we can survive! We can live on, without the threat of imminent death. WE WILL LIVE!” He said, one again without the ‘We Have’ in his speech.

“Okay. If you’re going to keep switching between talking with and without the stupid ‘We Have’, then please just stop talking. You're confusing me!” Connor said.

“We have found that I will not listen to you, as we have much proof to state that you are in fact, an idiot.”

“SHUT IT!”

    Man I hate this guy. First he kidnaps Kate, then he annoys me with that stupid ‘we have’ thing, and now he calls me an idiot. HE”S THE IDIOT! NOT ME!
