I was pretty excited to work with Mikayla. I knew that if the three of us put our heads together, we'd do a pretty good job.
So now we were waiting for her. Last I saw her she was running out of the school and she looked pretty sad if you asked me.
Twenty minutes had passed and still no sign of her. "Where is she? I'm tired of ordering this blueberry fritz drink." Wayne complained. This was his third cup.
"Then stop ordering them and plus is your bladder on lockdown today. Why aren't you peeing?" Wayne was known for his weak bladder. So I'm surprised he hasn't gone to the toilet yet.
"First of all, I used the toilet first thing I came here and second of all isn't that Mikayla?" He pointed behind me and I saw Mikayla and she looked sad. Had she been crying?
"I'll be back. Let me go check on her." I said leaving my seat and hurrying up towards her.
Wayne gladly hummed and I guess he was also concerned.
"Mikayla, are you okay? You don't look too good" I asked and placed my hand on her shoulder.
"No, I'm not." A tear escaped her eye and she quickly wiped it. "I'm sorry Andrew, but I came here to tell you that I can't work with you guys anymore." I was bummed. I was really looking forward to working with her.
"Ok can we please sit down? I can't let you go like this. If you don't mind telling me, what's wrong?" I couldn't let her go like this. It looked like she was caring the weight of the world on her shoulder. She didn't even look present- minded.
"I can't stay for long so I can't sit. Thank you though." I really wish there was something I could do to help her.
"Ok. Can I atleast drive you home?" One thing I know was, she didn't have a car plus it looks like it was about to rain soon.
She looked up and noticed the dark clouds gathering. Then a drop of rain fell on her face and she smiled.
"Did you know that rain is beautiful? Some people say that it rains when the heavens cry out for someone. I believe rain is a symbol of God's grace because after the rain, the rainbow reminds us of His unfailing love." That was beautiful.
"If you love the rain so much there's no need for us to take the car. We can walk?" I asked her. She smiled and I realised that seeing her like this was much better than the broken, sad face she held earlier.
I grabbed my books and gave Wayne my car, told him to fetch me later and he agreed although he asked me endless questions. "You're gonna walk, in the rain? How is Mikayla? Where are you going? Call me and be safe."
Wayne loves me too. I just know it. But the last past was a little too much. 'Be safe', now that's just gay.
"Alright, let's go. Here you go." I handed her my jacket whilst I wore Wayne's.
She smiled and wore it. She looked cute as the sleeves didn't quite fit. No! It wasn't small, it was a little big. I can't believe your brain thought I'd give a girl a small jacket. I wear a size large, thank you.
We jumped, danced and laughed a lot. It had been so long since I had this much fun.
We rested on a bench under a shelter.
"Is it weird that I feel hot instead of cold?" I asked Mikayla. She smiled
"No, it's not. When you do something you love, you don't care about the situations you face or the horrible circumstances." She smiled revealing her dimples again. Even in the rain she looked beautiful.
"You should tell that to Peter. He didn't focus on the good things, the rainbow, more specifically, Jesus, instead he allowed the circumstances get to his head." I answered. I've been reading the Bible on Jesus walking on water and I realised that a lot of us don't keep our eyes on Jesus rather we let our circumstances define us.
