Entry 33:

Mayor Christner POV:

I hate my job, and that is all there is to it.

I have been stuck here for years, watching the city burn and rot in front of me.

As gangs divided the place, corrupt officials were kept in power by those gangs, myself included, even if not by choice.

But now my new friend has arrived, and he has been doing my job for me.

This Linus Ozias is a rather interesting fellow, a Brockton native yet not sullied by the city's corruption.

I looked up his history. He lost his mother, father, and grandparents to various events, yet he helps the city.

Most would abandon this place and run, yet he stays if not out of confidence or arrogance. I do not know, but I am happy he does.

He has armed the police, saved the homeless and destitute, and also improved the quality of life in this shithole.

I would even claim that Linus was the second coming of Christ himself, as he seemingly pulls whatever he needs out of his ass.

Need more improved housing. The man creates more efficient means to create it. Need food? The man makes food replicators. Want power? He creates better means of controlling what we already have or entirely new power sources.

I even see people beginning to worship the man on the PHO threads. Some call him a god, and I am beginning to believe them as every one of his actions and successes mount up more flock to him.

I was initially worried he would go for a governmental position, but during one of his interviews, he blatantly said he would remain a business CEO instead.

I even met with him myself, and he was rather interesting. He wasn't very extroverted, but he was proud. He was humble, but he was not easily intimidated.

He knew what to say and what to do, but he also knew his limits. Even when I asked him why he was doing all this, he said, "Because someone had to, and while I may not be that person, I'm going to give it my damnedest shot."

The pure fire in his eyes nearly inspired me, even if he did not realize he was gaining a following.

And hey, I know who to throw my lot in with, and he looks like he's going to succeed, so I will keep letting him do what he wants.

At least when I meet with the other governors and mayors, I won't be the laughingstock anymore.

Because while they have their beautiful cities, I have Linus Ozias.

As I light my next cigarette and look towards my developing city, I am happy to stay out of his way.

Linus Ozias POV:

Corruption is a good and bad thing because when I met with the mayor, he exemplified a walking doormat; anyone who can hold power over him can do whatever he wants as long as he gains something from it.

All the better for myself, as I've already routed a decent amount of the gangs, and while their influence wains, they become more desperate, and as their desperation increases, they'll make more mistakes.

I can already feel the ABB looking to challenge me, and Kaiser is grinding his teeth into dust in his office as the Empire 88 loses control over the commercial district.

These gangs aren't filled with gaggles of superhumans. They're built off of everyday people, and as ordinary people improve their lives, they no longer need to look to gangs for protection.
