EMIHLE

As soon as he parks the car, I don’t wait for him to open the door for me. I step out and head inside the house running to our bedroom. He calls my name but I just ignore him because there’s more to say. He said what he wanted to say and I have to respect his wishes because he’s the one who knows what’s best for his son.

I take my laptop, put it inside the bag when he walks in and I hear him locking the door. I close my eyes, take a deep breath then head to closet and change clothes. I wear jeans and a t-shirt then walk out. I look at the coffee table and my laptop bag is no longer there.

“ Come here” he says softly. I need my laptop cause I need to see if there’s anyone who has responded to the ad. He has taken it because he wants us to talk and I don’t want to. “ I said, come here” he says again and I hear the command in his voice.

My feet carry me to where he’s sitting. I stand in front of him but he pulls me closer and I get between his legs. His hands move up my legs until they rest in my buttocks.

“ Amore, this is hard for both of us. I didn’t expect this to happen and I never wanted to hurt you through my actions or words. What I did by going to see Hazel was wrong because you are Aya’s mother. Not on paper and let that be the last time you are ever going to say that. Do you understand?”

His eyes hold my gaze. I just nod. “ Say it. I need to hear it”

“ I will never say that again"

“ I will punish you if you do and you better not doubt your place in his life as his mother. You and your son have a connection that no one could ever try to break, even Hazel would never have that. Don’t feel threatened just because she has decided to show up. We will make sure that her intentions are pure before we even tell Aya that she is his birth mother, okay?”

“ Okay. Can I leave now?"

“ Amore…..”

“ I heard you Gwabini. Can I please have my laptop back because I need to go to work”

“ You’re not okay love….”

“ Of course am not and I want some space from you. I am mad at you and I need you to let me deal with my feelings the best way I know how. Is that okay with you?”

“ I hate seeing you like this, I’m sorry love"

He gives me my laptop bag. I take it, my handbag too then walk out without looking at him.

“ Miss Emy?” Walter calls my name just as I head to the front door. I stop and turn around. “ We were supposed to go through next week’s menu?”

“ Oh I forgot, can we do it tomorrow?”

“ Yes ma’am”

“ Thanks Walter”

I pull the door open wand walk put. “ Where to Miss Emy?”

“ To my office Vino” he nods and opens the door for me.

The drive feels short. I know they are fitting the kitchen unit today. The sign is going to be delivered on Monday and I can wait to see what it actually looks like. I hope my family is going to proud when they see the work I have done. I greet them as I walk in.

My receptions Mrs Sithole follows me to my office. She closes the door behind her. Even though we haven’t officially opened the firm, she has been coming because she wants to be ahead and ready for when the doors open. She’s a 48 year old woman who lost her job three years ago at another firm that closed after the owner died and his children decided to seek it because they all lived overseas. I offered her the job the next day after the interviews because she really impressed Hlanga and I.
