EMIHLE

I feel something cold on my face like it's a wet towel or something. My eyes slowly open, they move around the room, the pungent smell of the hospital fills my nostrils. I see my mother and Hlanga's aunt in the room.

" Mama"  my mouth feels dry. " Can I have some water?" His aunt fills the glass with water.
" Thank you auntie." She nods.
" I'm just glad you're okay"
" Emy, My God you scared me." My mom says.
I put my hand on my stomach and sigh deeply when I feel my bump.
" Is my baby okay?"
" Yes, the doctor said so. I'll go call the doctor" his aunt says and walks out after we share a look.

" What happened?"
" I…I don't remember. I just felt tired, hot and I couldn't breathe. How did I get here?"
" Nomusa and Hlanga brought you here. He's so beside himself with worry. I should tell him you're awake" she quickly walks out.
" Ma…." I try to stop her but she doesn't hear me.
I sigh. I don't want to see him right now and I tell my mother that, she's going to want to know why and I don't know how I'm going to explain it.

The door opens, his aunt walks in followed by my gynae then my mother and him. Our eyes meet then I look away. He stands next to me and takes my hand. I want to rip it away from him.
" Miss Mdakane, you're awake. How are you feeling?" How did they kind him? Oh Vino must have gone to get him.
" I feel okay. Is my baby okay?"
" Your baby is okay thankfully but your blood pressure is very high and that could put the baby's life at risk. Thank God they brought you here quickly"

I heave a deep sigh. " So there's really nothing wrong with our baby?"
" No sir. Miss Mdakane, it's important that you avoid any situations that make you feel stressed." I just nod.
" It must be her job, she's a lawyer doctor."
" It's not…."
" I'll make sure she doesn't work too much doc."
" That will be good. Miss Mdakane, I'm going to keep you here tonight and if tomorrow you're blood pressure is normal, you can go home"
" Ohk, thank you doc."
" You were supposed to come tomorrow for your check-up but there's no need now since I checked everything and the baby is healthy and growing"

Thank God my baby is okay. " Have you decided if you want to know the gender of the baby?"
My mother smiled. She's excited. " Oh, my God Emy."
" Grandma is excited here" they chuckle.
" I have decided that I'll wait until they are born to know."
" Are you Emy?"
" I am mama" she cocks her head and stares at me.

" I think we should give you some space. Nomusa and I will go home and get you some clothes and cook something for you. I have to call your dad and the family and tell them you and the baby are okay"
" My clothes are at the farm, please bring Aya with you when you come back"
" We will"
My mother kisses my cheek, walks out followed by the doctor. Auntie looks at Hlanga then shakes her head.

" Zola is going to kill you my boy when he finds out that his daughter landed in the hospital and almost lost his grandchild because of you and nothing is going to save you from his wrath. You better come clean to Emy and tell her the whole truth"
With that said, she walks out. I pull my hand from him and lay on my side facing away from him.

" Emy…."
" Please leave, I don't want to talk to you"
" It's not how it looked. You have to believe me. Please."
" Leave Hlanga"
" Emy…"
" I said leave!" The machine beeps loud. I take a deep breath then count to 10.
A nurse walks in. She looks at me then looks at Hlanga.

" Visiting hours are over sir, you can come back after 2 hours to see Miss Mdakane."
" Ok, ok. Emy I love you and I will explain everything to you. Just give me a chance to explain before you tell your family" he tries to kiss my cheek but I shift my face. He sighs then walks out.
" Can you let my son in when he arrives?"
" I will and I'll make sure no one disturbs you, miss Mdakane."
" Thank you"
