Finn

Once I leave Alice's house I march straight home, and as soon as I am safely behind my bedroom door, I sink to the ground, put my head in my hands, and let myself cry. Hearing her say she doesn't love me made me feel gutted inside. But knowing that she was lying was the beacon of hope I needed. I just didn't know why she's lying.

"AHHH!" I shout and nearly pull the sides of my hair out in frustration.

Needing a distraction so I don't make myself crazy thinking about it, or go back over there when I shouldn't, I decide to call my buddy Tristan. He's the friend that will bring a bottle and listen to me rant, without offering advice or asking a million follow up questions. Which is just the kind of friend I need right now.

He shows up with a full bottle of jack faster than I would have thought possible which makes me wonder if he was on his way over already. He passes the bottle over and watches me down about a fourth of it without comment on my increased consumption. Another great thing about Tristan.

"Alice is back," I say, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand.

"When?"

"Not sure. Saw her today at school. Then went to her house a few minutes ago."

I take another giant gulp then pass him the bottle. He takes a drink without another word. Just waiting to see if I will elaborate more on my own.

"She told me she didn't love me. That she never did, actually," I tell him.

"That sucks."

"Yeah, except she was lying when she said it. She couldn't even look me in the eyes."

If only I knew why. I wish more than anything I could figure out why she was lying. Why she left town. All of it.

"She's been acting really weird lately," I say.

"Weird how?" he asks.

"I don't know, man. I just feel like she's hiding something."

"Like what? Did she say anything strange or specific?" he asks eagerly making me wonder why he was suddenly so interested.

"What's with you right now?"

"What do you mean?" He takes another swig of whiskey and tries to seem casual, but I'm not buying it.

"I mean why do you care so much?"

"Look, man. I got to go. I'll see you tomorrow," he says suddenly. Then sets the bottle on the table and heads for the door.

"Well, that was weird" I say to myself. First Alice, and now Tristan. Everybody around me seemed to be going crazy. Unless, I'm the one whose actually losing their mind. Very possible.

I finish off half the bottle on my own, making myself nice and dunk and fully ready to make some bad decisions. Reaching into my pocket I pull out my phone, and with blurred vision find Alice's number and hit call.

As usual, she doesn't answer, but it doesn't stop me from leaving a voicemail.

Alice

When Finn is gone, escorted out by Paige, I finish changing. I then text my dad to tell him I am home from school and will be at the house all night with Paige if he wanted to call. Then once I had that out of the way I call Elijah to give him our Tristan update.

"Hey, beautiful. How was your day?" he says in lieu of hello.

"It sucked. You weren't here," I pout.
