Elijah
The window guy shows up a few minutes after Alice and I get back from Finn's, and quickly gets to work replacing the glass. I stay downstairs while he's there, but all I want to do is take Alice somewhere private, so I can talk to her and tell her how sorry I am. She hardly said two words to me on the walk home, and the second we got here she retreated to her room and hasn't come back out. I wanted to ask her if anything happened when she was visiting Zoey that upset her. But it was probably just me and my stupid actions that had her in a bad mood.
I watch the clock and try to remain patient knowing she can't avoid me forever, and then finally she comes down the stairs, and I sigh in relief. "Everything okay?" I ask her, "You've been up there for a while."
"I was just resting," she says rather unconvincingly. "But I just got a text from Finn saying he is ready to come back."
I want to suggest that he just stay there, but I know that won't go over very well, and I know she wants somebody to walk him back.
"I need to stay until this is done," I say apologetically, gesturing to the construction behind me.
"That's fine, I will take Cole or Paige with me," she says like she is daring me to argue, and I know that if I value my relationship I better not.
Not that I really have a reason to anyway, I just hate her being anywhere without me. I've never been a jealous or controlling person before, and I have no idea why I feel the need to keep her close all the time. I guess it's the realization of her being a real person after so many dreams, and now being afraid that she will disappear and I will wake up and realize I'm still dreaming.
"I think that's a great idea," I agree as enthusiastically as I can.
She doesn't say anything else, and instead just heads into the kitchen where Paige and Cole where making lunch. Then a minute later her the two of them are out the door. She doesn't even wave goodbye to me.
"Everything okay with the two of you?" Cole asks as I join him in the kitchen. Even thought it would have been obvious to a blind man that it wasn't.
"I really hope so," I sigh.
"What happened? Is it the stuff Tristan told us?"
I debate rather or not I want to tell him the truth, but knowing that he would just get it out of me eventually anyway, I go ahead and fill him in. "I asked Alice to marry me."
"You did what now?"
"I proposed to, Alice."
"When did this happen?"
"Earlier today. When you and Paige were in the backyard practicing your powers."
"You are such a bonehead!" he exclaims loudly, startling the workers in the living room.
I want to argue, but I know he is right. "What was I thinking?" I say taking a seat on one of the bar stools and letting my head fall to the counter.
"Is it safe to assume she said no and that's why you are moping around here?" he asks.
"I don't know."
"How do you not know?"
"I thought she was saying no, but now I think maybe that's not what she was saying at all, and I am just so confused."
"Well, I wouldn't blame her if she did turn your dumb ass down," he scolds. "You can't pop the question in her living room on a whim. You have to plan these things out!"
"I know, I just figured since we have been married so many times before, and we knew we would be again, that the asking part didn't matter as much."
"Of course, it matters! You haven't even told the girl you love her, yet! You have to-"
