The movie then switches to the intro where were reintroduced to Ash, Misty and Brock cooking out in Viridian Forest when a bandana wearing trainer challenges Ash to a battle and the two have a battle while a mysterious Spearow is shown filming it. Gary is being filmed fighting Team Rocket and getting his last gym badge. Green is being shown training as she has decided to finally take down Team Rocket tracking down the team. Ash and the group get a letter from a Dragonite as Ash is challenged to fight the strongest trainer in Cerulan Cave and they head off to the cave where they go through the cave and find out that the strongest trainer is actually Mewtwo and Ash battles Mewtwo but is knocked out bad and Ash, Misty and Brock's Pokemon DNA taken and Ash, Misty and Brock are taken hostage and become missing for 2 weeks.
One day, Gary is training his pokemon to be ready for the Indigo League when Delia comes by to see where her son Ash and his friends went with Gary deciding to go investigate with Green who is training her cute pokemon. They find Oak and he's talking to Blaine about a mysterious evil that has been released onto Kanto with Oak not listening but Gary and Green follow Blaine to Cinnabar Island to the ruins of the Pokemon Mansion where he meets up with Mr Fuji and Gary and Green confront the two about the whereabouts of Ash and Blaine decides the two deserve the truth.
