I offered a bowl to Kyanite and he looked up at me from his work. He was carving a wolf out of some kind of stone that was dark. "Thanks... how is Kyros?"
I sighed. "He sees me as a child or a sister."
Kyanite nodded and looked over at the anvil that was lit up every now and then by sparks. "Yes... he needs to let you be you."
I put my food aside and stared at the fire. "Why is he so sure you will hurt me?"
Kyanite let out a long breath. "A story for another time my dear. Now how much did we make from the mine?"
Pulling out the book I had brought with me from home I sighed. "20 silver and 2 gold. All small-sized coins. After costs and some supplies we needed, we have 13 silver and 2 gold. I had to pay the price the supply manager wanted as there was no other choice. We were low on water and needed to top off our skins. They charge for it there, he said something about needing to bring it up from the town." I looked up from the book when Kyanite said nothing. Kyanite was staring at me with a large smile on his face. "What is that look for?"
He nodded and took something out of his bag. "What are you smiling about and what have you got in your hand?"
He looked up at me. "A head for numbers is a very valuable thing. As for what I have in my hand..." Kyanite opened his hand and I saw a shiny gold ring with the small piece of sapphire that he had been polishing before.
It glittered in the moonlight and turned the skin under it blue. The gold was bright and I could see it was heavy.
"Wow..." Was all I managed to say staring at it.
"I made this and I'm tempted to gift it to the course." I shook my head as I moved to get a closer look at it. He let me pick it up to look at it. "Why not Reina?"
"I don't know about... the other women you know but.. I know any of the women would I know would see this as a great wealth." I put it back in his hand and looked up into his face.
He was looking away from me and was... blushing? Why is Kyanite blushing? He cleared his throat and closed his hand. "I think.. that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me." His voice was tight as he talked. Then he whispered. "A great deal short." Under his breath.
Why would he say that? I looked over at Kyros, he had been joined by the blacksmith and they worked together at whatever it was they were doing.
"Should we go to bed?" Kyanite blushed harder and then nodded. I only asked if we should go to bed. He doesn't think I mean.... no... could he?
"Come on then an early night will do us some good." He smiled as he spoke.
"As long as you keep that sword handy."
He nodded avoiding eye contact but he still had that smile. He took my hand and led me to the cart. I climbed in and watched Kyanite move about outside the cart. He put his bag down and sighed. "I will be back in a minute." He walked away as soon as he finished talking.
