They were careful when running back to the vault, making sure to look before turning every corner. They heard the screeches of monsters coming from behind them, they were sure those things had made it to the glade by now...

'Saiko...' Saiki thought about the boy who was left behind. 'If only you weren't so stubborn...' He hoped the monsters would kill him painlessly...

"We made it..." Kuboyasu whispered to the group. It was time. "Stay close. Either we get out now or we die trying."

The vault was opened from earlier, and unguarded as far as the eye could see. The group walked in slowly, following Kuboyasu and Saiki who had walked in first. Their footsteps echoed, spears drawn, and eyes scanning around to make sure nothing would take them by surprise. The room around them suddenly lit up. The lights turned on one by one, and as it turns out, the group was standing on a narrow platform that stretched out to the end of the room. On either side of the platform was a drop that one couldn't make out, as it was too dark below to be able to see where it ended. There was another door at the end of the corridor, with a computer-like screen next to it, showing a display of numbers that were meant for some sort of code...

'The numbers... the numbers that showed up everytime the maze changed...!' That had to be it. What other significance could those numbers possibly have? All they had to do was type in the code to the maze and they would finally be able to escape. As Saiki walked forward, Kuboyasu suddenly put a hand on his shoulder and pulled him back.

"Watch out!" He yelled out just as a monster crawled up the side of the platform and pounced on the spot Saiki was about to walk towards. The group yelped out and were about to turn to get away from it, but as they did, another monster had crawled up the other side of them. They were slowly getting cornered. "Keep your spears up!" Kuboyasu shouted, readying his weapon to thrust at the monster if it dared to come close. When the group thought it was just two monsters, they were sorely mistaken as another one, and then another one crawled up onto the platform as well. They quickly closed in and the group started to attack, thrusting and swinging their spears like madmen.

For a little while, the group was able to hold them off, but they soon started to fall apart, as expected when fighting against something so inhuman and unpredictable. People were getting thrown off of the platform, slashed by the monsters' metal claws, bitten by their sharp teeth– Saiki knew that if they fought any longer, they would all surely die.

"Somebody put the code in!!" Saiki shouted to anybody who was listening.

Toritsuka, who had never done anything like this before, nor had he ever set foot in the maze, felt something come over him as his eyes lingered toward the computer device at the end of the corridor. He was barely fighting. He was far too afraid of everything around him to fight. But he knew he had to put in that code one way or another. He ran. Ducking under flying spears, and claws, he tried to run to the device. Tried. Just as he was about to make it, something had knocked him down. And he slid. "No, no, no, no, no–!" Just as he was about to slide right off the edge, someone had grabbed his legs, trying to pull him back up.

"I got you!" It was Teruhashi of all people, though she struggled to pull him back up. As Toritsuka looked down into the sea of darkness, something shiny came into view and attached itself to the metal of the platform.

SCREEEEECH!!!

"AHHH!! PULL ME UP! PULL ME UP!" He cried out frantically, trying his best to get away, looking down at the monster who was coming closer and closer to him as each second passed by. And with all her strength, Teruhashi pulled on his legs as hard as she could, until she successfully got him back onto the platform.
