Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Jet Black Wings

Teruhashi held her breath, trying to remember everything Kusuke taught her as she extracted Saiki's blood from the cloth she had secretly obtained. Mixing it in with the blue liquid, with shaky hands, she placed a drop of the new concoction on a petri dish and put it underneath a microscope. She made sure to look behind her, double checking that she was completely alone. She doesn't know what she's thinking. Keeping this a secret... If anyone were to find out what she was doing, she could get into a lot of trouble.

When she saw that she was completely alone, she turned back to the microscope and looked down at the glass. Her eyes widened and she pulled back, letting out the breath she had been holding onto. She brought a hand up to her head. "Oh wow..."

Toritsuka was able to meet up with Aiura on the other side of the wall and he helped her guide the kids back to base. "Saiki!" Toritsuka called out. "Kaidou! Saiko!" It was like a ghost town. "What the hell...?" He turned to Aiura. "Where are they? Shouldn't they be here?"

Aiura felt sick to her stomach. Nobody was here and she didn't know why. "I... I don't know..." She turned to the kids. "Stay right here, guys. They have to be somewhere, help me look for them, Toritsuka." The boy nodded and they ran around the entire base, calling out their names, or even hoping to find anyone, but to no avail...

Creeeaaak

The two stopped upon hearing the loud groaning noise. "What was that?" Aiura said. Toritsuka followed behind her to run back to the kids, only to see all of them looking out the window. "What are you all doing?"

"The doors!" One of them shouted. "They're opening!"

"And those people are gonna riot!"

"What?" Her eyes widened, gently moving a few kids out of the way to see what they were talking about. She gasped. "No..." It was true. The doors were beginning to force themselves open despite the groaning of metal trying to stop it from doing so. "Toritsuka, I think we messed up.."

The boy swallowed nervously. "You think so?" His voice was starting to get a bit shaky. "What do we do? They're in terrible danger."

Aiura shook her head, finding it hard to believe what was happening. She kept her gaze out the window, watching the rioters closely as they stood shouting at the doors. They expected to see soldiers pour out of them, but upon seeing there were none, a lone man lit something Aiura couldn't quite see before he threw it. "What the–?!"

BOOM!!!

Saiki and the others were close enough to see the explosion first hand as he helped Kuboyasu hold up Kaidou by his shoulders. Their eyes widened. A rioter threw an explosive toward the open doors to get rid of any LMTLSS trucks near the inner wall. They were destroyed as well as anything around in, including that part of the wall. "What the hell?!" His jaw dropped. "Why are the doors open?!" He turned to look at Saiko, who was just as shocked as he was.

"Don't look at me!" Saiko shouted. "Those vigilantes may have picked me up, but I don't support arson and vandalism!"

Teruhashi jumped upon hearing the explosion. Immediately after, red lights started blaring. "IMMEDIATE EVACUATION MANDATORY, IMMEDIATE EVACUATION MANDATORY!" The speakers said.

'What?!' She clenched her jaw. 'I can't leave. Not after what I just found!'

"Teruhashi!" Kusuke ran into the room, she turned quickly, covering her work with her body. "What are you still doing here? We have to evacuate."

"No." She shook her head, not bothering to look up at him as she kept her eye behind her. "I can't leave."

"Why not?" He reached a hand out to see what she was working on behind her and, to his surprise, she smacked it away. "Ah?!"
