Chapter Twenty-Seven: The End of a Chase

Kusuke ran into one of the main laboratory halls, meeting up with a soldier. He grit his teeth, lifting up his fist and landing a punch across the unlucky man's jaw. "Imbeciles!!" he yelled. "All of you! Imbeciles! If we don't find them in exactly one hour or less you will all be out of a job and into the scorch! Do you understand?!"

"Affirmative, sir!" They said back in fear before heading down the hall.

What they didn't know was that they were right past Saiki and Kaidou, who were ducked down against a wall in a dark room, watching them run past through the window.

"That guy is crazy." Kaidou whispered, nervously rubbing his hands.

'Yeah.' Saiki nodded. 'I feel bad for whatever one of his family members survived the flare– if any...'

Aiura was stressed. There were roughly twenty-eight kids in the bus at the moment and keeping them quiet was hard. She kept watch out the window, making sure there were no soldiers going by. "Get down!" She yelled to the kids, seeing a LMTLSS car pull up with speed. It parked only a dozen yards forward. Her and the kids did as she was told and ducked behind their seats– Aiura prayed they weren't seen... but a lone bus out in the middle of an empty lot was suspicious. She watched carefully as LMTLSS soldiers poured out of the car and ran right, behind a wall and most likely into the building. She thought they weren't going to get noticed and almost took a breath of relief before the last soldier exited the vehicle, stopping mid-run and noticing the bus... "Shit..." Aiura quietly cursed to herself, seeing the soldier slowly approach them and alarming two other soldiers following behind him. "Sorry, Saiki..." She sighed. "I'm gonna have to change plans..."

The LMTLSS soldiers approached the bus slowly, making an abrupt stop when the engine suddenly turned on. Aiura popped her head up, eyes full of determination as her hands gripped the wheel. "SOMEONES GOT THE BUS!!" A soldier yelled.

"HOLD ON!" She yelled to the kids as she floored it. The kids held on for dear life and screamed in fear at the sudden abrupt movement. She knew the lone soldiers wouldn't be able to stop them and they had to jump out of the way in order not to get run over.

"Aiura?!" She heard Toritsuka's voice over the two-way radio. "Did you start the bus?!"

"I had to!" She talked back to him, pressing the button and grabbing the wheel as she swerved. "We're still doing the plan, just way earlier! Keeping these kids here was too dangerous!"

"Is Saiki with you?!"

She didn't answer his question. "Just keep with the plan! Be ready!" They broke through the gate entrance to the parking lot and rode the streets. "It's alright!" She turned back to the kids and put on a fake smile. "I'm a really good driver!" She turned back and almost hit a fire hydrant. "AHHH!" She swerved and accidentally made some kids fall over. "Sorry! Sorry!" Adjusting her rear-view mirror, some LMTLSS official vehicles were already on her tail. "Damn it! Everybody hold on tight!"

Meanwhile, back at HQ, Kaidou and Saiki kept up their disguises and walked past doctors and nurses casually. He stopped upon seeing Dr. K talking to another doctor. Taking out his firearm, he pointed it straight at him, hands shaking slightly. "Saiki!" Kaidou grabbed him and ducked him down behind a wall. Another soldier had noticed him and was about to shoot. This alarmed Dr. K, pushing the other doctor aside, he marched up on them and the two scrambled down the hall.

"Aren!!" Kaidou yelled. "Aren, where are you?!"

"Kuboyasu!!" Saiki yelled out for him. They knew he had to be down here and they had to find him quickly. Shots were fired and the boys ducked, still desperately calling out to their friend.
