"Delilah don't touch it."

"I just wanna make sure it's-"

"Delilah I swear I'll hit you."

Delilah pouted as Jillian continued to work on her hair, standing behind her as Delilah watched her through her vanity mirror.

Prom night. The day Delilah had waited for since she was a kid, other than her wedding.

Jillian and she had been in her room getting ready all day. Jillian had already finished her hair and makeup and she was helping Delilah with hers.

Delilah's dress was truly gorgeous. It was a shoulderless baby blue dress. The heart-shaped bodice stopped around her waist and flowed into a beautifully layered skirt that almost reached the floor.

Jillian had done her hair into a loose low bun with a braid crowd over her head.

Delilah had never felt more pretty.

But as she watched Jillian continue to talk about her date, Delilah couldn't help but zone out.

She had been worried about Jeremiah for the last few days, whenever they called he always seemed so distant, and when they met he was always distracted.

Delilah tried giving them excuses, they were busy with school and he was just preoccupied with Susannah.

But Delilah knew she couldn't lie to herself forever.

"HEY LOSERS! GET DOWN HERE, JEREMIAH AND THOMAS ARE HERE!" Liam's voice came from downstairs followed by Peter yelling at him about calling them losers.

The girls looked at each other and stifled laughs, quickly looking at each other in the mirror before throwing their arms around each other.

"I can't believe it, prom," Jillian whispered, Delilah smiled as she squeezed her arms.

"And there's no one else I would rather do it with."

Delilah had imagined this moment, walking down the steps feeling magical in her dress. Jeremiah would be there at the end of the steps with a corsage, his eyes on her like she was made of stardust.

And she did have most of that moment. Jillian had gone down first, she stood between her date, Thomas Beckett, and Liam. Susannah and Laurel were on FaceTime on Peters's laptop which was held in Liam's hands facing the stairs.

When Delilah walked down she heard her father laugh waterly, she saw Jillian and Liam grin, and then she saw Jeremiah.

He wasn't looking at her.

The boy had been looking at his mother on Facetime, where she was in her bed hooked up to different machines and an IV drip. Delilah masked her sadness with a big smile because Jeremiah did turn to her.

His expression made her forget about everything else.

"Lilah...you look beautiful." Jeremiah breathed when he finally got her in his arms. Delilah laughed softly as she wrapped her arms around his neck, his hands going to grip her waist.

"You look very handsome too." Delilah beamed as Jeremiah held her chin between his fingers and pulled her into a sweet kiss.

This was her Jeremiah, the Jeremiah that she loved so much her heart ached. The Jeremiah that loved her more than she could ever know.

She had to remind herself that he wasn't going anywhere.

"Okay enough, save the tonguing for the afterparty." Liam's voice rang out from behind them, and the whole house laughed. Delilah turned around and waved at Susannah and Laurel on Facetime.
