TRIGGER WARNING!!!: mention of cancer !

The walk back to the dance floor for the mass dance was a blur for Jeremiah.

When he saw the way John and Laurel were talking, the bad feeling Jeremiah had been feeling all night just seemed to grow. As he got into positions beside Steven, the boy couldn't help but get worried.

"Hey, does my mom seem okay to you?" Jeremiah asked, Steven shrugged as they walked down the stage to the dance floor.

"Sure, why?"

"I don't know, she's been sleeping a lot. Smoking a lot more pot." Jeremiah frowned.

"She seems fine to me," Steven said.

"Yeah, but I saw your parents talking about it and your mom seemed pretty upset," Jeremiah said but before Steven could respond, the boys ran to their positions across the floor from each other.

Music started playing and the boys started to dance.

Delilah knew she shouldn't but she secretly recorded the whole number on her phone. The room erupted in cheers and laughs as the boys danced around the room.

Delilah felt her smile waver when she spotted Jeremiah's smile. It didn't reach his eyes like it always did, his eyes didn't crinkle like they did when he was genuinely happy.

Sure Jeremiah always sent the girl a wink whenever he locked eyes with her but Jeremiah seemed out of it the whole dance.

Her smile completely slipped away when the boys hit their final pose. Jeremiah sat on the floor across from Steven, the boy wasn't smiling as he stared at their table. Delilah thought he was staring at her but when she turned around to see what he was gazing at she swallowed nervously.

His eyes were glued to Susannah.

After the dance and once everyone got to settle down and get some refreshments, the girls and their partners all lined the floor to begin the dance but the summer group all frowned when they realized a specific someone was missing.

Delilah watched in worry as Belly flew from girl to girl asking where Jeremiah was. The adults all watched in confusion as they whispered back and forth.

"Wait, where is Jeremiah?" Laurel asked and Peter shook his head.

"I literally saw him by our table a second ago"

"Connie, kids, have you guys seen Jeremiah?" Susannah asked with wide eyes. The three kids exchanged glances as they shook their heads.

"Its okay, I'll go find him. He couldn't have gotten far." Delilah reassured the group. The brunette quickly made her way out of the room and flew down the halls.

Even in heels, Delilah ran around the building searching for her blonde boyfriend. Delilah stopped when she saw the pool doors open and ran out.

Delilah felt herself freeze when she saw Jeremiah's shaking frame at the edge of a lounge chair. Delilah knew Jeremiah had somehow found out.

TRIGGER WARNING STARTS

Jeremiah didn't say anything as he heard Delilah's footsteps behind him, Jeremiah didn't react as Delilah sat down behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist in a tight hug, Jeremiah couldn't breathe as he continued to look at his mom's phone trembling in his hands.

"Upcoming cancer trials."

Jeremiah let out a small sob as Delilah placed a soft kiss on his shoulder.
