"Happy now?" I said jokingly to my aunt, sitting at the kitchen table while taking a sip of my soup.

She turned from doing the dishes, placing a hand on her hip.

"You wanna keep sneezing, boy?"

I chuckled, as I then found myself get lost in thought, smiling.

Aunt Marissa gave me a weird look. "I ain't never seen nobody as happy as you when they're sick. What's up with you?"

I shrugged with a playful smile. "Nothing." I said before taking the last sip of my soup and putting my dish away.

"Mmhm." She mumbled in disbelief, turning back to her dishes.

I walked into the living room, pulling out my phone.

Ebony's been on my mind ever since school let out.

I would've gone to see her right after school, but my aunt literally insisted that I come home for soup.

Just as I was about to call her, my phone rang.

My face immediately lit up as I then answered the call.

"Hey beautiful."

"Hi handsome." Ebony responded coyly.

"What's up? Y'know I was just about to call you-" I then sneezed aggressively.

"What'd I tell you, boy?" Aunt Marissa called out from the kitchen.

"I'm fine, aunty." I playfully rolled my eyes.

"Hey, what're you doing right now?" Ebony asked me as I chuckled. "Right now? Trying to get this woman off my case." I replied which caused her to giggle.

"Why? Had something in mind?"

"Yes actually. There's something I want to tell you in person... Could you meet me?"

"Anywhere." I responded, already starting to walk towards the door, smiling from ear to ear.

I feel like I already know what she wants to tell me.

Those three little words that I've been dying to hear from her.

This just makes me so incredibly happy.

I can't wait to see her.

"Okay, meet me at the p-"

I noticed Ebony suddenly stopped talking. Confused, I waited for a few seconds but only heard silence.

"Ebbz? You still there?"

"I... I have to call you back." She said as the phone then quickly cut out.

Confused, I hesitated before placing my phone back in my pocket.

What was that all about?

I shrugged it off, assuming she was called for dinner or something else.

Suddenly felt a hit to the back of my head. Wincing, I turned around to my aunt, rubbing my head.

"Ow, aunty..."

"You hiding something from me and I want to know what it is." She crossed her arms.

"You been way too happy these past few days, and I know for damn sure it ain't because of that Angela."

I started to smile, sighing in submission.

My aunt is one of closest people to me. She's basically all the family I have. I have no reason to hide this from her.
