"Okay, hold still."

"Jazzy, is this necessary-"

"Hold still!" I repeated, clipping another of Ebony's hair into a curl as she sat at my vanity table.

"Remind me again why we're getting ready so early?" She yawned tiredly.

"Because! This is homecoming!"

"If you say homecoming one mo' time!" Cindy yelled from inside the bathroom as I rolled my eyes. "Try on your dress!"

"I'm tired! And dis dress is too damn girly!"

"Just put it on!"

Ebony giggled. "Did we really need to skip school for this? Homecoming isn't until much later."

"This is going to be a night to remember. For all of us. I can just feel it." I started to smile happily.

"And it starts with us looking the best which I'm ensuring will happen." I placed my hands on my hips.

"Okay Jazzy." Ebony chuckled slightly.

"Hey, did you get a chance to talk to Caesar yesterday?"

"Oh. No, I didn't." She said softly, looking down. "But I will today."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to-" "No, it's okay." Ebony shook her head, starting to play with her fingers.

"...I just wanna fix everything, y'know?"

I rubbed her back. "You will. Okay?"

She nodded, smiling softly at me.

The bathroom door opened as Cindy walked out, her arms crossed, wearing her strapless purple dress.

"Oh my gosh!" I jumped up excitedly. "That looks so good on you, Cin." Ebony smiled.

"I look like a damn eggplant." She mumbled.

"Hush." I walked over, examining her. "You look beautiful and Riley's gonna think so too."

"Duh." Cindy smirked, walking back into the bathroom.

"You're next for hair!" I called out as she then groaned loudly, slamming the door closed.

Ebony and I both laughed as I put in her last curlclip.

"Okay, you're done! We'll take them out later, until then, don't wreck my masterpiece!"

"Okay okay." She chuckled, standing up and stretching.

"What're you gonna do with your hair, Jazzy? Straighten it?"

"No, Huey hates when my hair is straight. I already got him to dance with me so I'm not taking any chances." I giggled.

Ebony smiled. "I'm really happy for you guys." She said genuinely, causing me to smile as well.

"Thanks Ebony. I'm happy for you and Caesar too."

She only nodded, her expression dropping slightly. "Yeah... If I haven't ruined it."

"You haven't." I reassured her, taking her hand.

"Everything's gonna be okay. Y'know why?" I smiled. "Because it's homecoming- OW!" I yelped as a hairbrush hit the back of my head.

I turned around to see Cindy standing in the doorway of the bathroom, her arms crossed.

"Cin!"

"I warned you."
