EMMA

Rain slapped me in the face as I broke the surface harshly, a gasp leaving my throat before I started to cough.

"I got her! I've got her!" Jason's voice yelled out, "Coop! Grab Probie!"

"Got him!" Cooper's voice roared back, and the heavy weight on my other arm eased as he easily dragged Arvin out of the water.

"Hey!" Buck appeared in my line of sight, his hand grabbing my other one, both Jason and him pulling me up.

I'd reached the bridge. The pole had been the leg of the bridge.

"Get her on her side!" Chimney's yell demanded, "Make sure she coughs all the water up!"

"I'm on it!" Buck yelled back, and I felt him brush Jason's hand off me, turning me on my side swiftly so I was looking at him. His face was the picture of concern, his nose red from the cold and raindrops clung to his eyelashes.

I was so grateful to be alive enough, so see him again. To see all of them again.

My eyes widened suddenly, and I tried to seize my coughing, forcing my arm under me to straight, pushing myself up, "A— Arvin!"

"He's going to okay, Em, you just need to breathe," Buck instructed, trying to make me lay down again as Jason stood and went to block my line of sight.

I had still seen Kata, Casey, and Chimney all working on Arvin, his face blue.

"Is— is he dead?" I coughed, grabbing onto Buck's shoulder for support, forcing my legs to bend and straighten.

"No, of course not," Buck wrapped his arm around my waist, helping me stumble forward. "Let's get you in the ambulance, Em. You need to get looked at."

I ignored him, "Ar— Arvin!"

"Prepare a crash cart, I'm not getting a pulse!" Kata yelled out.

"Taking over on compressions!" Casey told her.

"Crash cart," Chimney took the bag Hen handed him, "starting at 160. Clear!"

"He's dead," I whispered out, leaning against Buck.

"He's not. He just needs a minute," Buck assured me, and I could see him looking around. "Come on—"

"No," I grit out, my teeth clattering against each other as the cold clung to my skin.

"Em—"

"180! Clear!" Chimney announced again, "Come on, kid!"

"Taking over!" Kata declared, moving Casey out of the way as Chimney removed the pads off Arvin's chest.

Hen charged the dials again, nodding at Chimney.

"200!" Chimney prepared the pads, "Cle—"

A sharp cough left Arvin's throat, and water started to gurgle out of his chest.

"There you go, buddy!" Casey breathed out, relief flooding his face before he turned Arvin to his side.

"Cancel charge," Chimney waited for Hen to turn off the crash cart, "blood pressure is low, we need to transport him. Where—"

"Whoa," Buck caught me as my legs gave out, his other arm sliding under my legs before he started marching down the bridge. "That's enough excitement for you. Treatment time."
