- Chapter 1 - The Low-Grade-Game -
...
Ah, yes, the story begins in the City of Tagaytay, in the Cavite region of The Philippine Islands. We see an ordinary high school in Tagaytay, we would cut to the backyard of this school, where most of the students hang out to chill for the break time. It was currently Lunch, and the students were really hungry as they all hadn't eaten their breakfast.
Then, we see our character, his name is Lance Cortez. He's somewhat of a quiet dude when he first enrolled in this school in Grade 7, but onwards till his current year, which is Grade 10, he's a really active guy. His grades have been a whack since he isn't studying that well because he's too addicted to cars and aviation, and his interest on a ship that sank in 1915. Ever since Grade 7, his normal Lunch would be his Grandmother's Tocino. He and his other friends were all eating at the same table, when out of the blue, 4 strange men entered the school and were escorted to the principal's office.
All the students didn't mind all of this, but a few minutes later, they were all called to the gym. That is, except Lance, he decided not to go because he's Kraken, he can do whatever apparently. He got his nickname "Kraken" from his father, his father used this alias when he was racing back in Japan in the 1970s-early 90s. His Father returned back to the Philippines as there was a "misunderstanding" with his racing group.
Lance: "Ya'll go to the gym without me, I've got other stuff to do at the classroom."
Lance's friend: "You sure? What if you had to be called for something?"
Ironically, his friend foreshadowed what's about to happen. Lance went back to the classroom and the other went to the gym. Lance shrugs it off as a useless program again, like the other stuff his school made before, but after 25 minutes of waiting, he noticed the gym was awfully quiet, when it should've been noisy as Lance himself snoring at night. Then, a few minutes later, his girlfriend enters the class.
"Lance!" she says, "You have to come to the gym, they're waiting for you!"
Lance: "Waiting for what? For me to be noisy as I was in my older school?"
His GF: "No, not that, just come with me!"
Lance, who was annoyed that he was being called at the gym, decides to go there because he thinks there will be a competition. Later, they both arrived at the gym. To Lance's surprise, everything is covered with cloth to darken the atmosphere at the gym. As he then tries to ask his girlfriend what's going on, Lance finds his girlfriend out of sight and just disappears. He gets a little creeped out but continues walking in the gym, then out of nowhere, everyone just starts clapping their hands.
Lance: "What the hell is this?"
Lance, right after he says that, gets dragged into a corner by his Adviser.
Adviser: "You're about to be interviewed by some men, alright Lance?"
Lance: "What? What's going on here?"
His adviser would then lead him to a room in the gym where those 4 men from earlier where.
Man 1: "So... You do realize you've been called here for a special interview."
Lance was practically confused and pissed on what's happening
Lance: "I just wanna know what's going on!"
Man 1: "Silence. Now... We're here to discuss your school grades being ridiculously low, and it's amazing you're still in this school."
Lance: "Yeah, that's just how I do my homework."
Man 1: "You son-of-a-bitch... Alright, the reason we're here is to basically bring you to another school in a different country so you can observe a proper way of being intelligent."
Lance: "Why would I move out of the Philippines!? I love my own country!"
Man 2: "Do you wanna be a pilot or what asshole!?"
Lance stumbles back at how unexpected and loud the tone of the second man was. Lance then gets his normal annoyed personality back and accepts the challenge
Lance: "Alright fine goddamnit, but how am I gonna be able to do that?"
The man then brings out a piece of weird-looking dice.
Man 1: "You will be playing a game of bet with this dice."
Lance: "A dice? What kind of bet is this?"
Man 1: "I haven't finished talking yet. You will be playing a game of bet with this dice, you must get the number 8th. You only have 10 attempts in doing so."
Lance, who can do the most accurate timings, got confident as he got the Lance-luck with him.
Lance: "Heh, too easy! I'll just roll the dice and I'll get the number 8!"
The Man hands the dice to Lance and then, it begins. Lance starts shaking the dice with a lot of external force, and then throws it into the gambling table, but what's this? It didn't get 8! It only got number 9!
Man 1: "9 attempts remaining."
Lance, being overconfident earlier, is now in regret and fear as he thinks he threw the dice carelessly without even knowing what he was doing.
Lance: "Erm, let's try that once more!"
Everyone of Lance's classmates started cheering him on for confidence. Lance shakes the dice more willingly this time, and then he throws it! But... it didn't get 8.
Lance: "7!?"
Lance's friends: "C'mon Cortez! You're one number off!"
Lance realizes that this dice was practically changing the positions of the numbers each time it hits the floor.
Lance: "Ain't no way I'm gonna be able to get number 8 with these circumstances! It's cheating! That's what it's doing!"
Man 1: "That's just how our dices are made, now 8 attempts remaining."
Lance goes for all 7 attempts with no luck, then the final attempt reaches Lance.
Man 1: "You seriously are the dumbest student in this school. You're on your final attempt, if you don't get number 8, you're never gonna reach your dream."
Lance: "I'm not stupid! You're just imagining things!"
Lance starts shaking the dice for this last attempt, but then he hears a familiar noise among the students. "Go Lancey!" the voice says. "(wait, that's my woman!)". Lance gets his confidence and starts shaking it with more confidence this time.
Lance: "Alright! This is for my woman!"
Lance throws the dice, it rolls... And it stops! What number is it!? Lance gets closer to the dice, and to everyone's surprise, Lance-luck went around at that moment.
Man 1: "You actually did it... You got number 8."
Lance, like normal, didn't feel like he won but just got the 8th by pure luck.
His GF: "Good Job!"
Lance: "Ah yes, just don't underestimate my luck!"
From that, Lance can finally have better grades in another country, much to Lance's concern.
Lance: "Alright... Let's get some ice cream."
But, before all of them could even exit the gym.
Man 1: "Hold up Cortez, you're not finished yet."
Lance: "What now?"
Man 1: "From what I've heard about you, you aren't getting along well with your friends in this school... So you needa get 2 close friends to go with you"
Lance: "Wait, what? Bringing 2 close friends?"
Man 1: "Yes, yes you do."
Lance: "Hmm... I think I know 2 I could bring with me..."
Lance didn't realize, he, along with those 2 friends of his, will go on more random stories in the future.
