- Chapter 36 - The Steering Knife! -

...

"I'll only accept what I've done if I 'meet' your friend, and then I'll stop haunting every driver out here."

After that fateful encounter, the guy in the Celica Supra drove off, leaving Sherwin alone.

Sherwin: "Hmm... Hopefully Lance will be able to pull something off against this guy..."

Sherwin stayed there for a little while, before driving off as well, headed off into the dark night.

...

We cut to the next day, where the guys were walking to school. With Olivia clinging into Lance's arm, as usual.

Lance: "Not gonna lie, you're too clingy, you can stop that."

Olivia: "No! I won't let go of you."

Lance sighs, but leaves Olivia clinging onto him. Suddenly, they both hear quick movements behind them, Lance looks behind to see Sherwin in his fixie.

Lance: "Yo! Where'd you been last night?"

Sherwin hops off his fixie, and chains it at a store in front of the school.

Sherwin: "I'll tell you later... Just don't expect it to be good news."

Lance: "Okay... I'll catch you then." He says in a suspicious tone.

They crossed the school's gate, and entered the school's door. They took off their outside shoes for their white interior shoes.

Lance: "I'm always wondering why y'all Japanese people need to remove their outside shoes, and replace them with inside ones. I mean, us Filipinos also somewhat do the same, but we're just barefoot."

Olivia: "It's tradition so that the floors won't be dirty, you know?"

Lance: "Ah, gotcha!"

Sherwin: "But don't we have janitors?"

Uno: "Good question."

Olivia: "Well, we have none. We clean it ourselves, it's called Oosoji. I thought you guys know these things?"

Lance, Uno and Sherwin: "Not really, we aren't Japanese you know."

Olivia sighs from disappointment, but shakes it off and they all continue walking to their class.

Timeskip, insert Unknown Fleet logo with Lance dodging a knife from his steering wheel.

Sensei Ikeda: "It would be around this time that John and Robert founded an airline that would be successful..."

It's history time, and the class is on the verge of falling asleep. This is where Sherwin would take a sleepy Lance awakened.

Sherwin: "Lance, wake up, I'll tell you later at our lunch."

Lance, who had just woken up: yawns "Huh?"

Sensei Ikeda: "It's about time you woke up."

Lance: "Oh yeah, sorry about that, you may continue."

Sensei Ikeda: ahem "As I was saying... Robert started to sue the airline that bombed his base..."

Classmate: "Sounds like something Lance would be interested in, it is about aviation after all."

Lance: "Yep."

After History class

We are at the rooftop of the school, the dudes found their new hang-out spot for conversations and everything else.

Lance: "So... What were you talkin' about earlier?"

Sherwin: "Remember the guy who bumped Uno?"

Lance: "... That son of a bitch, yeah?"

Sherwin: "I encountered him last night, and he would like to 'meet' you."

The atmosphere suddenly changed from a light mood, to a sudden tense, cold wind.

Lance: "Ah, great. Where does he want to do a little rendezvous?"

Sherwin: "Dunno about that, but probably Izu."

Lance, now has a determination to take this guy down, but he doesn't wanna accept the challenge yet.

Lance: "Why not race him yourself?"

Sherwin: "Nah, I've done my part."

Lance: "Damn it, guess I have to take him down."

Sherwin: "Good luck on that."

Lance: "Anything else he said?"

Sherwin: "Well, you need a knife on your steering wheel."

...

A few hours later, class dismissal

School bell rings.

Everyone walks out of the school with a happy mood as it's gonna be a weekend of no homework, but Lance has one... Not school related though.

Uno: "Sayonara, bitches."

Olivia laughs at Uno's joke, but Lance continues walking seriously.

Isabelle: "Kraken-man looks like he isn't in the mood."

Lance: "Nah, I'm just thinking of something."

Uno: "Thinking of starting an airline?"

Lance: "Like John and Robert? Nah, not today."

Uno and Isabelle continue walking ahead, with Lance and Olivia having a slower walk back home.

Olivia: "Why Lance? What's wrong?"

Lance: "Olivia... If I die steering my FC with a knife in front of me, what would happen?"

Olivia: "I'd be devastated! I can't afford to lose my La-"

Then, she remembers what Isabelle said.

Olivia: "Don't tell me..."

Lance: "I'm gonna race him, tonight."

...

A few hours later at Izu, Uno, Satoshi and Olivia await for the orange A60. Lance inside his FC, revving it to warm up the engine from the cold autumn wind.

Uno: "Don't die Lance."

Lance: "Nah, I'll live."

And then... The sound of a 5M-GE engine is heard in the distance.

Uno: "There he is!"

The A60 then passes the toll, and parks beside the FC. The driver gets out, with another steering wheel in hand... With a knife!?

Kouchi: "Kouichi Minamoto, that's the name."

Lance: "Cortez, Lance."

Kouchi: "Hmm... Alright. Let's get this set up."

A few minutes later, Kouchi is setting up the steering wheel on Lance's car, and the result is terrific.

Kouchi: "Try steering."

Lance steers left, and as he does... The knife grew closer the more he steered!

Lance: "Holy shi...-"

Kouchi: "If you wanna win, get used to that" He then laughs after saying that.

Uno: "Shit."

Satoshi: "You better survive this Lance!"

Kouchi: "Say your prayers, and line up."

Lance gets a little worried now, the knife is sharp enough to stab him.

Lance: "You know... It's a good thing I'm still wearing my school uniform! I've got a double layer of protection."

No... Not that protection, stop having dirty minds.

Both cars line up at the road, both cars will be starting side-to-side.

Uno: "You know, I'll count this time, good luck Goose!"

Lance: "Heh, good one Maverick."

Lance then looks at Olivia, who has a worried look.

Olivia: "Lance, don't die..."

Lance and Olivia make eye contact, with Lance having a determined mood on him.

sighs

Lance: "(I'll try.)"

Lance rolls up the window.

Uno: "Three!"

Lance and Kouchi look at each other, with a serious expression on their faces.

Both: "You're going down."
