Igneel woke them all up with a scream.
"What the fuck was that?" The dragon shouted as he panted harshly, sitting up and supporting his head with a trembling hand. He let out another yell when a shoe flew at him and smacked him in the face.
Ra had sat up and started glaring at Igneel. "Watch your language around the kids. Next time, it's the club."
When Igneel barely reacted, Ra frowned. She untangled herself from the clingy bodies of her grandsons, strode over to him, and crouched down in front of his shuddering body.
"What's wrong?"
Igneel flopped back onto his pillow and rolled over, ignoring Ra's question.
Raon, who had blearily opened his eyes, flew over to his fellow dragon. Cale assumed they were talking telepathically.
Ra cleared her throat. "It's only a little after four thirty, so anyone who can fall back asleep should, but those who are staying awake can have their morning rations now."
On and Hong scrambled off him, a stray paw digging painfully into his ribs, and Cale followed – no use in going back to sleep now.
Heewon and Sangah joined the three of them.
"Where were you all when the third main scenario came all at once?" Sangah asked after she swallowed a spoonful of canned pineapple.
[The Devil of Blood and Static smiles at the memory.]
Cale raised an eyebrow at On and Hong, who loved telling stories. They beamed.
Hong sat up and became the perfect image of a high-class house cat, swished his tail once, then began.
"It was working out well to have the regular amount of monsters coming at us for short periods of time. Cale and I were killing them easily. When everything came at once, Cale killed them with wind darts as I took care of the stragglers, nya. On fogged up the monsters' vision.
"That was until Mildred," Hong's voice filled with venom, "took away Cale's skills. Then he had to use the monster bones as weapons and physically fight them. I couldn't handle them all even with the acid poison. He fought for four hours straight until his skills came back.
"He was able to kill them with air darts again, and the only issue was that he couldn't stop to rest. Though he did get a jar of peanut butter to eat."
Cale somewhat approved of the retelling. It didn't exaggerate anything, but it had too much to do with him for his liking, and he knew damn well that the two cats were aware of that.
Sangah looked slightly guilty. "We broke the stairs and had Pildu handle it. Though we did end up taking down the Theater Dungeon partway through the monster rush."
"Oh, so that's what happened to the stairs, nya!" On nodded sagely. "It's always good to delegate."
[The constellation that shadows the sun laughs and agrees.]
Frowning, Cale tried to ask for clarification. "Nobody got hurt, right?"
"Not during that time." Heewon leaned on her crossed legs. "What about with your group?"
"No injuries. Hana had to be taken to another room at some point because of the noise, though."
Their faces softened.
They were joined by a few others, and Cale was relieved to fade into the background. He moved off to where Ha-Joon was barely touching his food.
How are you?
