"Are you part of Saul his pack?" I asked him.
"No, we aren't. He knows that we are here, our coven fought with them in the last war. Our whole family helped them because we were used for our powers by the others."
"You have visions?" I asked him.
He chuckled "you noticed that uh? Sometimes I feel something when I touch people. Sometimes it's a vision, sometimes just a feeling."
"What did you__" I asked him.
"You didn't take the blood test? Why?" he asked instead.
"I skipped two years. I was just 14 years at the time, my parents refused to take it. Then they admitted that I'm adopted. But in the end, I was relieved that I couldn't take the blood test."
"Why?" he asked but I had the feeling that he already knew the answer.
"Because it would tie me down. No more advanced witch classes, no more Fae theory and so on."
He hummed "that's why we live here."
"Elmer what are you telling her?" Paris stood before us with a smile.
"Nothing bad honey," he smiled at her and took her hand in his kissing the back of it.
I found out that Saul let them live in the desert, they traded between them products such as milk, butter and cheese. Wool from the sheep or hair from the goats. Sometimes the meat of the animals and their skins. Alma introduced me to her whole family, and they talked more about the vision of their ancestor. I mostly smiled and nodded at them when they started again with their ideas about the next Queen. They had whole theories, some crazier than others. I noticed Einar and Elmer talking a bit further away from us. I was sure that Elmer had seen something when he took my hand. I only hoped that it wouldn't be something bad.
I enjoyed hours of silence and tranquility in the desert. Their coven, as they liked to be called, was a tight-knit group and although Einar was the leader, he listened to everyone.

A couple of days later I lay with Alma on one of the sand dunes while we watched the sky. She was teaching me all the stars that we could see tonight, and I let her. She was nervous, Einar wanted to have a talk with Rowan and Dorian.
I heard her groan after a while "you already know them, do you?"
I turned my head towards her "yeah sorry."
"Is it a good or negative thing to be that smart?" she asked.
"When I was young, I really struggled. School was too slow, I was bored, and the teachers hadn't time to give me more challenging work. But the Mrs. Van Loock saved me__."
Alma chuckled "saved you?"
"Yes. Thanks to her, I was able to take some years together. And I started my junior year when I needed to start my freshman year. It's thanks to her that I found my love for learning back."
