- Eli's Hotel Room
ʰᵒᵘˢᵗᵒⁿ ᵇᵃᵇʸ!

Dark messy hair covers Eli's pale freckled face as he sleeps. He is woken up by the feeling of a buzz coming from his back pocket, only to realize that he is still in last night's clothes. To the right of him, he can see his best friend sleeping in her bed, like the little princess she is.

Eli ignores the text on his phone, instead going into the bathroom to freshen up. The memories of last night suddenly come flooding back to him bringing a smile to his face.

One thousand miles away lied Anna, checking her phone every five minutes while at work to see if Eli responded. "You okay hun?" her co-worker Debra says pointing her head into Anna's office. She could see the look of worry on Anna's face. "um...yea..." Anna looks toward her older colleague.

Debra had been working in that office for more than 25 years, she had way more experience to being a therapist than Anna. On Anna's first day on the job, Debbie said that Anna reminded her of her granddaughter. Since then Anna found herself always turning to Debbie when she needed some grandmotherly advice.

"That didn't sound very convincing dear..." Deb says as she walks into Anna's office and sits on her long leather couch, patting for Anna to sit next to her. "Tell me what's wrong?" her gentle grandmother voice coming out strong.

"well...there's this boy. I've known him for a bit now...last year it was kind of complicated between us because there was this other guy. Um...me and this boy ended up going our separate ways only to recently reconnect again. But now he's gone again, although that's not the main problem." Anna looks from Debbie down to her lap, as if she was a shy little kid.

"Then what is the problem dear?" Debbie puts her hand on Anna's shoulder to try and comfort her. "Um...well we didn't make anything official while he was here and I don't know when I'll see him again. I'm worried that he doesn't feel the same about me anymore or that he's gonna move on while he's away." Tears start to fall down Anna's tan skin as she leans her head on Debbie's shoulder.

"Anna...don't you think it's a sign that you've found your way back into each other's lives? I know you're scared but you don't have to be. Trust that he likes you the way you like him and everything will work out." Debbie looks at Anna with sincere eyes as she speaks. "And...if you ever want to take some time off to visit him let me know, we can work something out." Debbie gives Anna a wink before walking out of her office.

Just as Debbie walked out of Anna's office, she could hear her phone buzz on her desk.

"Good morning :)), just got to work. lmk when you're free. - Anna"

"Morning :), me and the mates are going to brunch right now. We have a free day before Dallas tmrw! - Eli"

Anna felt a smile grow on her lips as she read his message, it was the bare minimum but for some reason she couldn't help but appreciate it. Yesterday when she called Eli, she was tempted to ask the question "What are we?" however he hung up before she could. Maybe it was a sign from the universe, was it not the right time? right circumstance?

Whatever it was, it obviously wasn't meant to be. Anna responded back to Eli before going to lunch. In recent efforts to avoid Coen, Anna has been eating lunch anywhere but in her office's breakroom. She's also been going to and from her office building 10 minutes after Coen normally would. This hasn't stopped Coen from trying to say sorry though, sending her fruit baskets and "I'm Sorry" cards.

After hours at work, Anna finally made it back home to her apartment, immediately being greeted by a talkative Mittens. As she makes her way to her bedroom she can feel Mittens following intently behind her. While grabbing out some clothes to change into Anna can see a tiny handwritten note hiding in her dresser. The messy handwriting and the scent of the cologne were familiar.

"Not easy to state the change you made.
If I'm alive now, then I was dead,
Though, like a stone, unbothered by it,
Staying put according to habit.
You didn't just tow me an inch, no- -Eli"

Crimson red fire heats up Anna's tan cheeks as she reads the note quoting her favorite poet. Somehow he knew, somehow he manages to know all her favorite things without having to ask her.  Maybe that's one reason Anna loves Eli; because even when he isn't there he is.

"Just found your note in my drawer, somehow you manage to read my mind. - Anna"

When Eli gets the notification that Anna messaged him he is already on the tour bus, on his way to the next city, to play the next gig. A light smile grazes his lips as he sees her message. Before he left for tour he left a bunch of different love letters and poems hidden around her apartment. His goal was to find his way back to New York before she found them all.
