A week had passed since Tanith had said no to switching Valkyrie off. She was still holding hope in her heart that her sister would wake up soon. Still, every time anyone said Skulduggery's name, her fingers would move, and hope would be restored. But now, after a week, they still hadn't found him, and Tanith was sure that they never would. Still, she had to stay positive, for Valkyrie's sake. Synecdoche had been trying to convince her that it was pointless, but Tanith wouldn't have any of it. She was persisting for Val to wake up. She talked to her, telling her how much they missed her, and how much Skulduggery would need her. But there was nothing she could do. Valkyrie was slowly dying, slipping away, and they had to find
Skulduggery! They just had to!

Ghastly had identified the man who attacked Valkyrie to be the time traveller that they had been searching for. Now, he had his heart set on finding Skulduggery. It seemed as though the Skeleton Detective had just........
Vanished.
But Ghastly wouldn't believe that, it wasn't true. Skulduggery wouldn't have just disappeared. He was somewhere on the Earth, and they would find him. They would find him, before Valkyrie died.

Ghastly walked into Valkyrie's room, and Tanith walked out, giving him a weak smile as she did. Ghastly shut the door behind him, and slowly made his to Valkyrie's bedside. He kneeled beside it, and took her fragile hand, and looked at her pale face. He choked back the tears.
"Come on Val," he said. "Don't give up on us yet. Please hang on darling. We can't lose you. We're trying our best to find Skulduggery..."
He noticed how her fingers twitched when he mentioned her partner. He smiled at little, then his look turned serious again.
"Please Valkyrie. Wake up."
The same beeping sounded from the monitor, and Ghastly suddenly turned desperate.
"VALKYRIE CAIN WAKE UP NOW! DON'T GIVE UP ON US PLEASE!!!!" He screamed. There was still no change in her heart rate, and Ghastly let his head fall gently onto his frail chest, and he wept.
