chapter 17: celestia and leo

dear luna,

although to me and remus you happen to be celestia, i figured to call you by the name you've used the majority of your life since i have no idea if you would even want to be referred by that name. to begin, i do happen to be your biological father. your biological mother, the love of my life, cecelia mcgonagall was the strongest, smartest, kindest and prettiest hufflepuff ever and yes good ol' minny does happen to be your grandmother, crazy right?

although you look a lot like her, from what ive been told you take on me while your brother takes more on cecelia. cecelia was like a sister to all the other marauders, there are innumerable stories of all of us at our time in hogwarts which i would love to share if you are interested at all. 

the night the potters died, cecelia was present there. she unlike me had figured it out that peter was the real betrayer among  us and due to this got herself killed, by peter himself the same night. much like lily with harry, she died to save you and your brother, although for the most it was known to everyone that all 3 of you died that night. except dumbledore, apparently. somehow you two had survived despite peter's intentions wanting to kill all 3 of you, but it also could be that he had let you two survive since cece and peter always had the sweetest friendship, she saw him in a way no one did and maybe some part of that rat had struck then, we dont know for sure though.

your aunt, susan adams is actually a very talented witch, bit of a crazy bat but kind hearted nonetheless. after losing her daughter marlene, a very dear friend of ours to the war, she had shifted to the muggle world. she is actually one of the only few people who too knew of the truth and had offered to take you and your brother in. she had planned it all out and knew of your parents wanting children hence why it all had happened. she did make dumbledore promise that she would not get affected by it at the least and was only doing this due to the soft spot her daughter had for cecelia and me.

and yes, lastly. dumbledore did decide to keep you and your brother's survival a secret for your own safety he says, although remus was livid and called dumbledore 'an old stupid yorkshire'. god that was funny. minnie probably knows by now so do go to her to comfort her once you can, im sure she's in somewhat of an emotional wreck knowing her grandchildren have been alive all this while. 

im aware you already have a mother and father, who you love dearly and i cannot be happier that you both have such amazing parents. i would love to properly thank them some day to express my immense gratitude for being so loving that you and xavier (leo, to me) so deserve. i am so proud of you luna, you've grown into such an amazing woman. i would love to get to know you, if only you'd want ofcourse. i cannot love you and xavier more despite not knowing you for the most of your life. the night cece was taken away from me, a part of me died along with her. words cannot express how happy i am that i got the opportunity to see you and talk to you even if it was very short.

ps: do try and somewhat explain things to your brother and hand the letter for him, to him, if any of you wish to write me back simply refer to the owl as snuffles and it will reach me.

by the end of the letter luna had tears in her eyes, she never had hoped or even expected to discover her birth parents having been more than happy with her ma and pa. but now that she knew, she felt a surge of sadness within her for cecelia, her birth mother, getting killed by her own best friend. 

"he was so worried when he got to know you were injured, kept asking before i had to practically force him to leave. although the look of proudness in his face was visible when he got to know you had run after peter without thinking about anything else." harry said with a small, sad smile.
