the quartet had just been informed of buckbeak's execution, whilst indulging in their first breakfast after all the students had returned to hogwarts having enjoyed their christmas holidays at home.
"WHAT? there has- WHAT NO?" hermoine shrieked to her best friends, the other 3 simply looking at each other and trying to figure out a way to make the situation seem bright in some way or the other.
"i mean they cant possibly kill off an entire bird because some stupid bleach-dipped student's accident" luna tried to make sense of things while having completely forgotten about her un-eaten plate of food in front of her
"an accident that he CLEARLY evoked" neville said from beside them, it was well known about the student especially among the gryffindors how empathetic neville was towards nature. one would only see the normally timid, shy boy as passionate whilst talking in regards to an animal or plant.
"neville, you read up so much on animals and plants. is there absolutely any way buckbeak could be saved?" harry asked
"i mean- i mostly just study plants, i could look through something though. maybe see if i could help?"
"oh that would be wonderful, in the mean time we could too look through some books in the library that might help hagrid re-appeal and somehow stop the execution" hermoine said
"and for once, ill gladly get some reading done in the library instead of being threatened by you a day before the date of submission of an essay" ron said, clearly trying to help the distressed bushy haired girl feel better.
on hearing this hermoine looked at ron and her face broke into a smile that made ron almost choke on his food and not help but smile back.
harry and luna just shook their heads at each other, clearly shipping the two and knowing that it wont lead to anything for a while atleast, simply because they knew their best friends.

"i want to woosh the dementors away too" luna said to george,
the two friends were in the library, george having been pretending to have to "study" for his owls as soon as he heard luna ask her friends in the common room if any of them had to go to the library since she was going in too. luna was simply skimming through a book of ministry laws trying to scout out something to defend buckbeak's execution with.
"you could just ask lupin to teach you too, he did agree to teach harry" george said while looking at the smaller girl and how she was wistfully looking out of the library window. he wondered if she knew of how infatuated he was by her presence.
"i mean, yes but harry needs to learn to defend himself more than i do and i dont want to go in there and have professor lupin focus on an extra student when all his attention could've been on harry.
he gets so embarassed by the fact that the dementors affect him so much more than all of us"
"you are such a mother, mother-luna" george said with a laugh
"right" luna simply petty smiled at his laugh
"oh dont give me that attitude, girl" george said with a bit of a sass unintentionally
"oh! where'd that come from? you girl-ied so hard just now" luna said turning her entire body towards the taller boy
george simply pouted his lips and pretended to flip his short hair back, to which luna just raised an eyebrow-
"damn girl, you fiiiineee" luna said trying to make her voice as deep as she could get it
"okay enough please, i dont like father-luna now"
