Chapter Twenty-Five

A few hours later, Matty awoke, still resting her head on Sebastian's shoulder. She assumed she had only been asleep for a few hours since it had been so early when she had fallen asleep in the first place. Sebastian was still asleep beside her, arms crossed and head slumped back.

Matty almost wanted to wake him up since she didn't want him missing breakfast but she figured she should just let him sleep after such a long night and early morning. She slipped away quietly so as not to wake him up and left the Undercroft.

When she checked the time, it was still early enough that breakfast would be on. "Thank Merlin, I'm starving." She muttered, rubbing her eyes as she started walking towards the Great Hall.

As she walked through the halls of the castle, she got a few strange looks or saw a few students whispering to each other after seeing her as she passed by-which confused her. The entire school knew she was Gryffindor, that much was obvious. So, why was she wearing a Slytherin house scarf? She had completely forgotten that the scarf she was wearing was not her own and it was normal for students to wear theirs around the school so she didn't think twice about it.

She entered the Great Hall and walked over to the Gryffindor table. Hope spotted her walking into the room and got up from her table and rushed over to the Gryffindor table, pushing Garreth over a bit on his seat so she could sit down.

Matty sat down opposite of them and rested her head on her hand, yawning. "Good morning." She mumbled, closing her eyes.

"You look like you had a long night." Hope said with sarcasm in her voice. She knew that Matty had gone out to Feldcroft last night to help Sebastian and Nellie mentioned to Hope earlier that Matty hadn't returned.

And of course, Nellie being the girl she was, immediately jumped Matty with questions. "Where were you last night?" She asked.

"Chasing ghosts, I dunno." Matty yawned, clearly too tired to hold a conversation. "It's not important. I'm just tired."

Garreth, who had been itching to comment on the fact that Matty was wearing a Slytherin scarf, finally got some words in before Nellie started talking again. "Who's scarf is that?" He blurted out.

Matty opened her eyes, looking at Garreth. "What do you mean?" She asked, raising a brow. She looked down at the scarf she was wearing to realize she was still wearing Sebastian's scarf had lent her last night because she was cold. "Yeah, I was going to ask about that too." Nellie piped in.

"Shoot, I meant to give this back to him." She thought to herself.

"A scarf?" Matty said to Garreth, not knowing what the big deal was. Was this why people were staring at her in the hallways? "Sebastian gave it to me last night because I was cold. Why? Is that such a big deal."

Nellie started to giggle and that just made Matty even more confused. "What is it? What do you three know that I somehow don't?" She asked, raising a brow.

Through the giggles, Nellie answered. "Well usually at school, when someone gives you their scarf to wear, it means they like you." She giggled. Hope just rolled her eyes but couldn't help but laugh a little bit herself.

"It was cold!" Matty retorted, looking confused. "He gave it to me because he didn't want me to freeze to death! Not because he likes me!" It seemed like that was the obvious answer. She was frigid last night and he wanted to help.

"Yeah, sure." Garreth taunted. "What were you two doing last night anyway?"

Hope reached over and smacked Garreth on the back of the head. "Shut your mouth, Garreth." She hissed angrily. "Merlin, can you be mature for two seconds?"
