Chapter Forty-Six
The doors to the study hall swung open as an overwhelming number of fifth-years walked out of it. The study hall had been turned into a makeshift testing hall so that they could take their O.W.L's and they were ready to get out after testing for so long.
"I'm sure I just failed every part of that test." A student said, walking out of the study hall.
"I already know my mum is going to be disappointed with my scores." Another student said.
Matty stood up from her desk, grabbing her things. The test was definitely more than she had expected but she felt as if she did pretty well in everything—or at least she tried her best to do her best in every category.
"I am so glad that is over." She said, turning to Sebastian with a sigh of relief.
"C'mon, it wasn't even that hard." Sebastian teased with a small grin.
Esme sent a glare down Sebastian's way. "Says the guy who finished his test thirty minutes before everyone else." She said, rolling her eyes. "Of course, it wasn't hard for you, you nerd."
Hope came walking over to Matty. "I think I did pretty decent on my scores." She said. "Doesn't matter to me as long as I get higher marks than Aaron did on his test when he took his O.W.L's."
Matty laughed. "Is everything a competition between the two of you?"
"Sibling rivalry is just about as natural as breathing, Matty." Sebastian said, leaning against the desk. They were waiting for all the other students to leave so that they wouldn't get swallowed up in the fifth years rushing out of the classroom.
Hope nodded her head in agreement with Sebastian. "He's not wrong." She looked between Esme, Ominis, Sebastian, and then over to Matty. "Come to think of it, you are the only one here right now that doesn't have siblings."
"That's not my fault." Matty said. "Besides, I'm sure all of London would cry if I had another sibling exactly like me."
Ominis threw the leather strap of his bag over his shoulder. "Sometimes siblings aren't always what they're made out to be. So I wouldn't exactly be opposed to taking Matty's place as an only child." His tone dripped with sarcasm. It was clear that out of all of them, Ominis had the roughest family.
"Agreed." Esme said, crossing her arms. Her older brother and sister weren't all that either. Typical pureblood families who made the children who didn't agree with them suffer.
They started to make their way out of the testing hall now that the sea of students had cleared up just a bit. "I always wondered what it would be like to have a sibling but sometimes the stories I hear make me think twice." Matty said. "Besides, I have Hope and Aaron around enough for them to be like my siblings."
"I forget you two are neighbors." Sebastian said, glancing at the two girls. He said it almost as if he were trying to change the subject. "What's it like in London?"
"Crazy, loud, some people are rude, but it can be nice depending on where you live." Matty replied. "I can't say that I haven't contributed to the loud part of London before though. But at least I'm not the people in the marketplace waking up others over a single bad deal."
"Trade days are the worst." Hope chuckled.
Matty glanced at Sebastian, who was looking off somewhere. The way he had tried to change the subject earlier made her wonder what was going on. "I'll be back in a minute." She whispered to Hope before grabbing Sebastian's hand and pulling him down a different hallway that was considerably empty.
