Chapter Forty-Two
It had been a few days since Professor Figs death and arrangements had been made to have his funeral held in London, to be laid to rest alongside his wife, Miriam. Not only was Matty attending the funeral because she was close to him, but also so that she may return home for some time.
She hadn't seen her parents since she left for Hogwarts on September first and she was desperate to see them. She also figured that it would be time to tell them the truth about everything. After all, they were in a much safer position with Ranrok being gone.
Seeing the streets of London again for the first time in so many months felt like when Matty had first arrived here from Ireland so many years ago. She would admit she was starting to get used to the wizarding world much more than she thought she would.
As the carriage pulled up to the house, Matty was relieved to see her home after so many months.
Ada resided inside, looking out the window. They had been informed just the day prior that Matty would return to home for the funeral. When her mother saw the carriage pull up, she excitedly called her husband from the cellar.
"Howard! Dear come upstairs! Matty's home!" She called out excitedly.
She quickly left the house, not waiting for her husband to get up the stairs before she rushed outside and to the carriage to see her daughter after so many months.
The carriage door opened and Matty stepped out. "Matty! You're home!" Ada said, quickly wrapping her arms around her daughter. "I've missed you so dearly."
Matty had a big smile on her face as she hugged her mother back. It had been too long since she had felt her mother's embrace and she was overjoyed to have it again. "I've missed you so much, mother." She said, hugging her mother tightly.
Howard came stumbling out of the house, no doubt having raced up the stairs to see his daughter faster than he had expected himself to. He raced over to his wife and daughter, wrapping them both up in a tight hug.
"Matty, my girl! I've missed you!" He said, kissing his daughters forehead.
He wrapped his arms around his wife and daughters shoulders, leading them inside their home. As Matty entered, she was hit with a wave of emotion from being home again. She knew she would leave to finish school soon but she would cherish the moments she had here for now.
"The house has been terribly quiet since you've been gone and we haven't had much to do since. We've been waiting every day for you to come home. We were quite disappointed when we received your letters that you wouldn't be returning for any holidays." Ada said as they walked into the house.
Right. Matty still felt bad about that.
"But nonetheless, we're glad to have you home—even if it is on such... unfortunate circumstances." Her mother said, regarding Professor Fig's unfortunate passing.
When her parents had heard of the news, they too had been stuck with overbearing grief. Truth be told they didn't know Professor Fig that well, but they had seen him almost every day for a month while he was tutoring Matty and they saw how well she had taken to him and how comfortable she was with him. They could see that their daughter had made a true friend in her Professor.
"I'm glad to be back. It's good to have a break and come home." Matty said. "I'll be back, I just have to go put a few things up in my room."
Matty walked up the stairs to her room. She had missed everything about this house; from the creaky stairs to her bedroom filled with trinkets and random things she would find around the city of London.
