Chapter Thirty-Five
It was the dead of night when Matty received an owl from Sebastian saying he had gotten in touch with Anne and needed her to get to Feldcroft as quickly as possible. She stumbled out of bed, grumbling about how he always sent her owls for her to go out at nighttime when she was dead tired.
She quietly picked up her winter coat and scarf and threw it on to keep herself warm and left the dorm room.
Sneaking out wasn't a problem anymore, she had done it so many times that it was like muscle memory by now. The ghosts always roamed in the same places, the prefects took shifts and during said shifts, some would only search certain halls. It was almost as if she could walk straight out of the Common room at midnight and nobody would be able to catch her.
She got out to the flying lawn with no problem before getting on her broom and setting off to Feldcroft. The cold wind wasn't nearly as bad since she pulled her scarf up to right just below her eyes. So while her eyes were watering, at least her face didn't feel like it was getting burned by the cold air.
As much as she was upset Sebastian had asked her to come out in the middle of the night, she realized it was probably because it was the only time Anne could find to slip away from Solomon's watchful eye to even be able to meet Sebastian in the first place. Matty had assumed since Sebastian getting disowned, Solomon was weary that he'd return anyway.
Matty landed a few yards away from the entrance to Feldcroft and in the distance, she saw Anne and Sebastian talking. As she walked up, she picked up on a bit of the conversation.
"Sebastian—a lost relic from a catacomb which requires a dark sacrifice?" Anne asked, her voice weary.
"I know how it sounds, but if this can help you, it's worth the risk." Sebastian replied in an insistent voice.
Anne looked at her brother wearily. "Does Ominis know about this?"
"He helped find the Scriptorium where we found the spell book." Sebastian said. Although that did mean Ominis knew, it didn't mean he was on board with any of this.
Anne let out a sigh. "Very well. If Ominis will be there, I'll meet you. We don't have much time. Solomon wants to leave Feldcroft."
A look of shock was now on Sebastian's face. Solomon wanted to leave Feldcroft? Now? "What? Leave? Never mind. You need to stall him. Buy us time, Anne. Please." He said to his sister in a pleading tone. If Solomon took Anne away from Feldcroft, this would never work.
"I shall do my best. I'll be in touch." Anne replied before leaving to go back to the house.
Sebastian sighed shaking his head. He saw Matty walk up, knowing that she had heard the entire conversation. "Solomon can't take Anne from Feldcroft. Where would they go? Where would I see her?"
Matty sighed. "Sebastian, the reason why Solomon is leaving Feldcroft is probably because he doesn't want you to know. He doesn't want you to see Anne." She said in a solemn tone.
"We need to act quickly then. Anne can try to stall Solomon as much as she can but I'm not sure how much time she'll buy us. We need time." Sebastian replied.
"Time? What for specifically?" Matty questioned. What was Sebastian planning on doing?
"I've learned more about the relic. I cross-referenced Slytherin's spell book with everything in the library on relics and Dark sacrifices." Sebastian started. "That's when I realized something; I believe the relic will only work inside the catacomb."
Matty furrowed her brows—she was unsure about this. The relic seemed dangerous enough and she thought Sebastian had stopped studying it. But then she assumed since the Keepers had been so stingy and definitely wouldn't say yes to teaching Matty how to take away the pain, this was yet again the only way Sebastian thought he could help Anne.
