Chapter Thirty-One
Quite some days had passed since Matty had first talked to Saan Bakar and he told her that she would need to wait until she could view his pensive memory. As frustrating as it was, she was glad that life had calmed down a bit. She could focus on school, study for her O.W.L's, and have more time to spend around friends.
But there still was a problem with one specific friend.
She and Sebastian hadn't spoken in exactly two weeks. Ever since that night when he had called her ignorant for working with Lodgok, both of them had been actively avoiding each other, not even saying a word.
At first, it felt like a breath of fresh air, but now it was just making Matty anxious. She really did think she was losing her friendship over this but she wouldn't lose her self-composure over this because after all, he was the one who had started the argument, not her. And if Sebastian was mature enough, he'd apologize.
Esme had found out about what had happened and scolded Sebastian half to hell for it but he didn't change his mind... Well, that was until he started getting anxious too.
When he realized Matty was avoiding him right back, that's when he started to regret it way more than before.
Initially, when the word "ignorant" left his mouth while speaking to Matty, instant regret washed over him but his mind tricked him into thinking he was in the right since he had known firsthand what the goblins could do. But yet again, Matty had a point when she said not all goblins were bad and he knew that.
And that's when he realized that he was the ignorant one.
After being scolded by Esme and coming to this realization, it kept him awake all night. Had he really said something that stupid to her just because he was angry?
"I need to get my emotions in check. Why would I say that to her? I care about her and she's been nothing but kind helping me with all of this when no one else would. What was I thinking?" Sebastian thought to himself as he stared up at the top of his bedframe.
When the morning after Esme scolded him came, he had the urge to speak with Matty and apologize. But when she seemed to give no care towards his way, he chickened out and told himself he'd do it later—if Matty ever wanted to speak to him again.
So, the day before he apologized, he was ranting about the entire situation to Ominis, who was just sitting on his bed listening to Sebastian, who was pacing around their dorm room.
"I'm telling you Ominis, I messed up so bad! How am I even going to apologize for that? At first, I thought we'd get over it and just go back to normal but ugh, I was so wrong." Sebastian said, running a hand through his hair. "I was so stupid for thinking that!"
"Yes Sebastian, I know. You've told me about a thousand times now." Ominis said, somewhat annoyed as he laid back on his bed. "And yes, I know you are stupid."
Sebastian furrowed his brows and frowned at Ominis. "That's not what I meant."
"Just apologize to her." Ominis said, placing his hands behind his head. "Your grades say you are one of the smartest kids in the school but your actions say otherwise."
"Yes but how?" Sebastian questioned. "This—this is different than just saying "I'm sorry". This is more than just me hurting her feelings or whatever happens when people get offended, Ominis. We haven't spoken in almost two weeks!"
Ominis sat up, getting frustrated with Sebastian. "Then I think that is a FINE time to grow up and apologize to her! If you're that worried about how you hurt her feelings to the point where you've stressed yourself half to Merlin's grave then you NEED to apologize. Goodness, stop asking me and just do it!"
