Chapter Twenty-Eight

It was ten a.m. before Matty woke up. It was a Saturday so there wasn't much she had to worry about since there was no school. She had spent most of the night crying and being upset—more like angry with Sebastian. She didn't want to feel like she was taking this to heart too much, but what he had said actually hurt her so she was giving herself some grace and allowing herself to be upset about it.

She sat up in bed, glancing back at her now tear-stained pillow and Nellie walked in.

"You're finally awake!" She said. "You look like a mess. What happened?"

Nellie noticed Matty's eyes were red and puffy from crying and her hair was a mess. She walked over to Matty's bed and sat on the corner of it. "You seemed to be really distressed last night so I just let you sleep in but Hope's been looking for you all morning. But why were you crying?"

"A lot." Matty sighed, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

"Well, get up at least. There's still time for you to make it to breakfast if we hurry. We can talk about what happened later if you'd like." Nellie said, urging Matty to get up. She didn't want her to stay hungry after a night of crying.

Matty nodded her head. "You go ahead, I'll be there in a bit." She promised. Nellie nodded and left the room while Matty got out of bed and dropped down to the side of it in order to grab her robes and scarf.

She grabbed her robes out of her drawer and grabbed the first thing that felt like a scarf. When she pulled it out, it was indeed a scarf, but not her Gryffindor one; it was the one Sebastian had given to her.

For a moment, Matty just stared at the green Slytherin scarf, remembering what had happened last night. But before she could allow herself to cry over the stupid things Sebastian had said again, she stuffed the scarf back into the drawer and slammed it closed, not wanting to see it anymore.

Scarf-less and struggling to get her robes on, Matty made her way down to the Great Hall for breakfast. Food did really sound good after a whole night of crying. The Gryffindor table was almost completely vacant. A few Gryffindor students sat there but the only one Matty recognized was Nellie—and Hope, who was just sitting next to her waiting for Matty.

"There you are. Nellie told me what happened." Hope said with a small frown after Matty sat down. "What happened?"

Matty bit her lip, wondering if she should even tell them what happened. She took a deep breath and just decided to talk about how she felt for once. Her mother always told her that keeping her emotions in and not expressing them never helped anyone.

"Well, last night I was with Sebastian. Everything was going well before we got into an argument about something—something stupid that I have no idea why he believes but, he ended up calling me ignorant and has wanted nothing to do with me since." Matty said, shaking her head.

Hope and Nellie glanced at each other. "He called you ignorant?" Hope asked and Matty nodded her head.

"Over something stupid but it made me upset. He made it sound like I had no idea what I was talking about." Matty replied.

"Well forget about him! You don't need to be around him. Clearly, he doesn't value your friendship much if he's going to throw insults around and call you ignorant when he's being stupid!" Nellie spouted.

Matty knew Nellie meant well, but when she had said that Sebastian 'clearly doesn't value their friendship' it kind of hurt, even if it was true.

Hope could see Matty's facial expressions and decided to chime in. "Let's just forget about this for now, okay? Eat up, we have class in a bit. We'll talk about this later." She said, already coming up with a plan on how to figure out everything that had happened.
