Swap sat at Dream's side, waiting for him to wake up. The lovely Toriel from Classic's au had healed Dream to the best of her ability. She was so much different than Swap's Toriel. He liked her a lot, she was much more caring and kind than the version of her he had grown to love. But hey, he liked the pie she baked and the flowers she kept replacing in the vase next to Dream's bed. She took quite good care of his lover, and despite the fact that she insisted they weren't, they were in her debt.

He leaned over and kissed his forehead, rubbing the back of his hand with his thumb. Swap's eyes fell to the floor, but immediately flicked back up to his lover when he heard Dream make a small groaning noise.

"Hey, hey baby!" Swap said quietly, and with relief.

Dream groaned again and looked around the room in confusion. He looked up at his lover after he couldn't see anyone else in the room. He tried to sit up but Swap carefully pushed him back into the bed, making him groan and clench his teeth from the pain in his back.

"C'mon baby, your back is still really injured from Nightmare, despite how Classic's Toriel healed you up as best as she could." Swap explained.

"Wh... what happened?" Dream asked groggily.

"You passed out after freeing me and when I tried to run, Nightmare attacked us and hurt your back pretty badly. We took you to Classic's au and his version of Toriel healed you the best she could without you being awake."

"M-my spine?" Dream asked.

"No, nothing more than a pretty nasty bruise. But the back of your ribs were cracked. Pretty badly."

"How badly?"

"Well... you now have 23 ribs, one of them broke off completely. But the rest of them should heal up alright, though it might take a while. Toriel said about three-ish months before you could go back into battle with the Bad Sanses."

"Fuck... did you see Ink?" Dream asked, obviously more worried about his friend than himself.

"He was okay. The only reason they kidnapped me was for the cure we always used for him. I think Nightmare actually let me, or- us go because I gave the cure up so easily."

"They do not care about him. You know that right?"

"I thought that. But after what I saw and how they cared for him and had obviously done so much for him... I'm not so sure."

"You... what?"

"Listen. He just... he looks safer there. Which is a really weird thing to say."

"Are... are you ok Swap?" Dream asked, placing the back of his hand to his forehead.

"Wh... what are you doing?" Swap asked, pulling his hand off his forehead.

"You must be sick or something. Because I can not believe that you would ever think like that in a normal state of mind."

"Come on Dream. Are you serious?"

"Are you?"

Swap sighed and stood up. He physically waved him off and walked over to the wall, placing his forehead against the wall. He sighed and tried to calm himself down so that he could deal with his stubborn asshole boyfriend. Sure, Swap loved him, adored him, but even he could admit that he was a dick that had a hard time listening and considering other points of view. Especially when it came to Ink, and it was even worse when talking about people abandoning him. He had his issues, extreme abandonment issues one of them, issues with Ink mostly relating to his soullessness being another.

"Dream." Swap said, catching Dream off guard with his harsh tone. "You're not listening to me. You didn't see what I did. They actually care about him." Swap turned around and gave him a harsh stare. "I know how it sounds." He insisted. "But he looked much more relaxed with them. He was passed the fuck out in Killer's arms. When was the last time Ink was ever that relaxed around us?"

"I-I..." Dream muttered, trying to get his bearings.

"He's not coming home with us. My guess is that if we keep going and trying to take him away from them then he'll hate us for the rest of both his and our lives. C'mon, just leave him alone."

"But... they must have done something to him..." Dream tried to insist, though quickly faltered under his lover's sharp glare.

"I love you Dream, but you are so stubborn." Swap said, dropping down into the chair he was just sitting in. "The more you try, the more you push him away. So stop trying. Make peace with this and try to convince them to allow him to see you. And after the positivity you forced into him, forcing him through excruciating pain for the last, like, week or two."

"Did he really... for the last two weeks?" Dream asked in horror at his actions.

"He was screaming almost the entire time I was there. They didn't have the cure we used for him. He was in a lot of pain."

"And... I-I-I did that... to him...?" he muttered, eyes wide from the realisation.

"Not... not too him. But... it was because of all that positivity. I think Nightmare mentioned something about it not mixing well with all their negativity. But, they tried. To fix him. They had so many different ingredients for what Ink said was dozens of different cures they tried. They really care about him."

"I did that to him... and they... Nightmare... helped him?"

"Yes."

"F-fuck." Dream whimpered, hiding his face and tears underneath his arms.
