Are They Helping?

Dream sat across from his partner and their two friends as Swap explained his idea to get Ink back. It was a stupid plan, but at least it was something. It was the best thing they could come up with, despite the moral and legal implications. But hey, they're the Star Sanses, they are the law! They can't possibly do anything illegal. So they decided that this would be the plan for now, and it would probably be their plan until there was no possible way they could continue on it. Dream was borderline ecstatic at the idea of getting him back, and making sure he was as far from Nightmare's influence as possible.

He was virtually bouncing off the walls with excitement the entire day. It was to the point where both Fell and Classic literally couldn't handle being around him, both very annoyed. They were not used to being around someone who was so excited they literally couldn't sit still and shut up, so they went back to Classic's au until it was time to set their plan in motion. It felt like an eternity to Swap, who didn't think Dream would still be able to talk and fidget this much after doing it the entire day.

Though he eventually went quiet, instead quietly staring outside, waiting for the sun to go down and the sky to go dark. Nevermind the fact that every au had different time zones, he needed something to look forward to. But because of the excessive amount of positivity, it was never really night time in this au, and vice versa for the au the Bad Sanses inhabited. Every once in a while he used his magic to check for whether or not Ink was asleep. No matter where he was and what au, Dream could always tell when someone was asleep because of his magic.

He turned to Swap excitedly and hugged him when he felt Ink fall asleep and enter the dreamscape. Dream used his magic to make sure that he was in a deep sleep, so they could go through with their plan without him waking up. Swap kissed him and smiled when Dream told him why he was so excited. He called Classic and Fell and told them that it was time, and the four of them entered into a portal to take him to the au the Bad Sanses inhabited.

They climbed the same trees as they had last time they tried to save Ink. Dream threw himself from the tree onto the balcony, Swap following close behind. Classic and Fell stayed behind in the tree and waited for them to return with Ink or for them to call them for backup. Dream tried to open the balcony door, but it was locked. Swap looked back at the two in the trees and shook his head at them. Fell groaned and forced himself off the tree and onto the balcony, much less graceful than Dream and Swap. He summoned a small metal tool into his hand and kneeled down next to the locked doorknob. He pushed the tool into the keyhole and easily picked it unlocked. He made it look like the easiest thing in the world as he stood up-after literally less than a minute-and opened the door into the room. Dream thanked him before walking into the room with Swap at his side.

They made sure that they were being as quiet as possible as they creeped towards Ink. Dream looked down at the small sleeping mass under the many blankets in the bed. He carefully petted the side of his skull, using a little bit more magic to ensure he wouldn't wake up during this process. He smiled giddily back at Swap, who walked up and hugged him from behind. Dream leaned over the bed and carefully pulled the covers off his small sleeping friend before carefully picking him up. He held him in his arms and looked down at him, sleeping so peacefully in his arms.

Swap carefully pulled away from his lover as they turned around and walked back onto the balcony with their friend. They smiled happily and Classic teleported down onto the balcony with the rest of the men. The four of them jumped when Ink's bedroom door slammed open and Nightmare appeared, weakening Dream with just how much anger was consuming him. Fell quickly teleported the five of them back to their base, leaving Nightmare to stew in his anger all on his own. He gritted his teeth and balled his fists up, his anger seeping into his magic and his cyan eye glowing bright.

Dream smiled down at the small skeleton sleeping in his arms. For the first time since he was taken, Dream had felt nothing but positivity coursing through his body. He bounded up the stairs, making sure not to wake Ink despite how he had used his magic to keep him asleep. He went to Ink's room and carefully placed him down in his bed and covered him in his many, heavy blankets. His positivity faltered as he pulled out a pair of handcuffs and chained his wrist to the headboard. He didn't want to do that to him, but he knew that Ink would fight and try to run after whatever Nightmare and the Bad Sanses had done to him. Dream needed to keep him safe. From his 'brother'. From the Bad Sanses. From himself.

He stood up, and kissed Ink's forehead before walking out and flicking the lights off. Ink wouldn't wake up. Ever. Not without Dream's magic to wake him up, and he knew that. But he wanted to be respectful, even if he was more in a coma than asleep.

It was the next day, the entire night the four men discussed what to do with Ink, and how to help him. They knew that they couldn't help him without knowing what was wrong, and they knew they wouldn't know what was wrong while he was asleep. They all filed into Ink's room, turning the light on, and Dream used his magic to wake him up. Ink shot up, his eyes wide, and his breath heavy. He frantically looked around, and shrank back when he saw the men in the room with him.

"How did I get here? Let me go!" He demanded.

Dream stood up and walked towards him, shuffling onto the bed. Ink tried to back away from him, but the handcuffs chained him to the headboard and inhibited his ability to move away, making it so that Dream could get much closer to him than he wanted.
