For Them

Ink left the room in tears and Nightmare watched him go. He turned back to Dream and Swap. Swap was shuffling away from his lover, and Nightmare could easily tell that Ink's traumatising rant quickly ended their relationship before Dream even knew what was happening. He calmed himself down, taking a deep breath and wiping his tears away. He sat quietly across from Nightmare while he and Swap started talking to each other, both ignoring his tears and sniffling.

"So I guess this meeting hasn't gone the way we wanted, did it?" Swap sighed, and Nightmare could feel the guilt eating at him.

"Speak for yourself. Sure, I did not want Ink to run off crying. I personally do not mind the outcome of this meeting. But I do have one last thing to talk to both of you about."

"What?" Dream demanded, wanting to get out of here as soon as he could.

"A truce. No fighting, no nothing. My boys do need murder and pain to satiate their LV, but I would be willing to give up a few aus that are on the more negative side for them. I just want your word that you will not interfere with us, especially not Ink." Nightmare explained, leaning back in his chair.

"Ok. Fine. I don't care either way really. Just... please don't kill innocent people. Sure, go ahead with murderers, or people who deserve it, but innocent men, women, and children don't deserve to die." Swap said, only further distancing himself from Dream.

"Yeah. Okay." Dream agreed.

Nightmare smiled widely and stood up. He walked over to the two and reached out for Swap'S hand. Swap took his hand and cemented his agreement to their deal. Nightmare reiterated their terms once more. In return for them limiting the amount of people they murder to those who 'deserve it' they will leave them to their own devices and leave Ink the fuck alone. Swap agreed, looking to Dream for his agreement, which he freely gave. Swap stood up and released Nightmare's hand before pulling his lover, well, ex lover to his feet and allowing Dream to use him as something to lean on, he was still in quite a bit of pain.

Nightmare opened a portal back to wherever Error got them from, he didn't know, nor did he care. Swap ushered Dream through the portal and stood on the other side, not crossing though until he expressed his final thought.

"Do... do I have to go with him...?" Swap asked.

"Well, no. You can leave him whenever. I do not care, it is not like you need my permission?" Nightmare laughed, mostly to himself.

"Well, I mean... you saw what it did to him when Ink left. He kinda went crazy, really depressed, I don't know what he'd do without me... but I... I can't even look at him anymore. I just... I can't believe he would ever do that..."

"I understand. But whatever happens to him is not your fault. He brought this on himself by being an abusive asshole. He doesn't deserve someone who cares so much about him. Even after everything you learned about him you are still worried for his safety and health. He does not deserve you, Swap." Nightmare explained, strangely affectionately.

"Thank you but... he... okay, yes, he doesn't really deserve it, but he... I can't have it on my conscience if he does anything to himself."

"He will live. You should not make yourself suffer because you are scared for him."

"Thank you... but you don't understand. Thank you for taking care of Ink for me."

"If he ever becomes too much, you are always welcome here."

"Oh... thank you, Nightmare."

Swap stepped through the portal and was met with Classic and his Toriel helping Dream back into bed. The portal closed behind him and Classic saw him out of the corner of his eye. Dream was already crying loudly and both wanted to be held and loved and left alone all at once. Swap stood coldly to the side and watched Classic stand there uncomfortably and Toriel care for his lover in his stead.
