~Kimbriella POV~
As much as I don't want to leave the comfort of my room, I'm going stir-crazy, and it's only been three hours. I stopped rocking an hour or so ago, plus I really have to pee. I put on a tank top and short shorts, not intending to see anybody. After meditating on the events of the past month, I realized a few things, one of them being that I hadn't exactly been happy with Keenan. We tended to argue often, and he was annoying at times.
Mayby Ryker had done me a favor. However, I wasn't going to let him know that. Still, it eliminated much of the rage that had consumed me after the event of the day. Turning on the handle of my door ever so gently, I cringe at the loud pop the door makes when I unlock it. I pause for a moment, waiting to hear footsteps. None come, so I continue my way. After making a quick stop in the bathroom to pee, I continue downstairs, keeping a sharp lookout for anyone I wouldn't want to run into.... which is pretty much everybody at this point.
Shuffling carefully across the floor, a creak on the floor makes me whirl around. But no one is there. I try to calm my jumpy nerves, though all I can think is that this is how all horror movies begin. A firm hand on my shoulders frightens me so badly I literally jump in the air. At this point, I'm extremely glad I went to the bathroom, because if I hadn't, I would've peed my pants. Spinning on my heel, I'm prepared to defend myself. Except it's just Ryker. Not bothering to hide my annoyance, I huff in irritation.
''I'm pretty certain I've made it beyond clear that I don't want to talk to you, preferably for the rest of my life.'' Turning to walk away, his hand revisits its spot on my shoulder. Despite me despising him, his touch sends fluttery jolts through me, which I hate.
''Can't we just talk?''
''No, because then you're going to sweet talk me into not being mad at you, and I don't want that to happen.''
''You know me so well.''
''Shut up.'' I grumble.
''Please, if you would just give this relationship a chance-''
''Considering you just ruined my last one-''
''Kimbriella, I'm so sorry about that. It was selfish, and not thought out, and a rash, horrible decision. I know you'll probably never forgive me, but if you could just try-''
''Nope. No can do. Sorry. Actually, no I'm good, but if it makes you feel better-''
''If you won't do it for me, do it for the good of the pack.''
''You're really going to pull that card?'' I bite my lip. How can I say no?
''I shouldn't admit this, but it's my last one.''
''I'm giving you three days, starting now- 4.51 P.M., on the dot.''
''Want to-''
''No. Not particularly.''His face drops into a puppy-dog expression, his giant brown eyes glistening in the dying light of the sun. ''How am I ever supposed to convince you to stay if I can't spend time with you?''
I tap my chin, pretending to mull it over. ''I don't know. It's not my problem.'' On that note, I march off, content. There's no way he could change my mind in three days; no way, no how. Smiling in glee, I skip up the stairs to my room. I am so going to win this.
The next day, I glance at the clock. 8.19, which means I've wasted approximately fifteen hours already. Feeling accomplished, I head downstairs, in such a good mood that I actually feel like cooking. Cooking is something I do more as a hobby than a necessary chore, and only ever end up doing when I'm feeling extremely happy. The pancake mix in the cabinet is calling to me, so I decide on a crowd pleaser: Chocolate chip pancakes.
A half hour of pouring, stirring, and flipping later, I have several batches of pancakes done. Many hungry pack members have tried to pounce on my pancakes, but I ordered everyone out of the kitchen until now, the last batch (that is, unless more need to be made).Since there's so many people, they eat in shifts, and I instruct the first shift that it's alright to come in. Ryker and Elison stroll through the doorway, murmuring in low voices, with Ashalyn and Brinley chatting not far behind. Trey and Cynthia are a bit behind the crowd, but look adorable together, as always.
Narrowing my eyes, I look at Cynthia. SOmething seems to be a little different... striving to put my finger on it, I stare at her. When she notices, she smiles at me a bit shyly. I smile back, and flip the pancakes so that they're good for a bit. I march over, intent on figuring out what's bothering me. ''Hey'' I greet her and Trey, leaning against the table. A few more pack members part of the first shift drift in, say 20 or so. ''Hi.'' Trey nods. Cynthia blinks, her pretty eyes frames by some of the longest lashes I've ever seen.
''Anything I should know about?'' I say bluntly, not bothering to beat around the bush. Tapping my chin with the spatula, I move my tongue around the inside on my cheek in hardcore concentration. ''Trey!'' Cynthia glares at him, though her glare still manages to be cute and loving. ''I know you're excited, but I told you not to tell anyone yet!'' Trey just gapes at me for a few moments before turning to his wife. ''I didn't..'' He trails off, still looking bewildered.
''C'mon, spill.'' I urge them. ''I won't tell anyone.''
Trey glances at Cynthia for permission, and she grants it with a quick nod. ''Cynthia is pregnant.''''Congrats!'' I whisper-yell, grinning widely. She grins back, more animated than I've ever seen. She places a finger to her lips, and I nod, respecting her wishes and privacy. ''How did you know?'' She ask, seeming about as confused as her husband.
''Something was just... different. I don't even know.''
''Well, I think you'll make a great Luna.'' The corners of her mouth turn up lightly. ''Nothing gets past you.'' For some reason, this really touches me -mayby it's in fact that I'm not going to be their Luna- and it produces a limp in my throat.
''I'm going to go make sure the pancakes don't burn, yeah?'' I force a laugh.
''Yeah, smart idea.'' She smiles again sweetly, waving me off.
