practically jump out of his lap, and Ryker looks just as horrified.

''Oh.'' He breathes. ''Hey Elison.'''

''I just wanted to tell you that it's about time to leave for you appointment with the Alpha.''

Ryker seems kind of speechless, so I decide to answer.

''Alright. Thanks, Beta.''

''Don't call me that.;; He pouts, but jokingly. I know he secretly enjoys the nickname.

''Get up.'' I pull gently on Ryker's arm.

''No thank you. You could come back.''

''Please? We can finish this later, I have to get dressed into something that isn't pajamas.''

''I don't know, I like this outfit.''

Taking a quick inventory, I'm astonished to find that my shirt had never fallen all the way back down, exposing a bit of my stomach, and my shorts were wrinkled and rolled up and very, very short. ''Shut up.'' I growl, making some rapid outfit adjustments.

I pull my hair up into a quick ponytail, scanning through my wardrobe. ''What's appropriate for meeting an Alpha?''

''You look good in everything, just pick something.'' Ryker drones, sounding bored.

'''Fine, finee.'I say, ignoring his compliment. Quickly I pick out an outfit consisting of a casual pink tank top, with a matching skirt and flats. ''Is a skirt fancy enough?''

''It looks very, very nice.'' He approves, staring at my butt as I twirl.

''Go get dressed.'' I snort, resisting the urge to roll my eyes yet again.

''Hmph.'' He grumbles, but does as I say. Returning in tan khaki shorts and a white shirt, how he manages to look attractive without even trying is beyond me.

''Time to go!'' Elison calls from downstairs.

''Coming!'' I call back, bouncing down the stairs a moment later. I hear a chuckle from Ryker from behind me.

''What's so funny?'' I glare at him, furrowing my eyes.

''Tell you later.'' He mouths. I raise an eyebrow in suspicion, but agree.

''So what's our goal, exactly?'' I ask as we get in the car. Elison waves while we pull away of the driveway.

''We've owned this piece of land adjoining another territory for years and years. All of a sudden, they started fighting over claiming it was rightfully yours. Elison and I feel it would be right to include you, for you to start taking on Luna duties.'' A pang of sadness fill me, but I shrug it off quickly.

''Okay. Let's do this thing.'' I nod firmly.

''That's the spirit.'' He grins at me before returning his attention to driving.

A little bit later, we pull into a driveway, revealing a large house. Not quite as big as our pack house, but reasonably large. I shove open the door, being careful not to slam it.

''Do we just go up and ring the doorbell?'' I giggle nervously.

''Don't be nervous.'' He comforts, rubbing my back gently while we walk toward the door. ''You'll be great.'' The ease with which he's able to read my emotions is almost scary. I give him a thin smile before rapping on the door with my knuckles.

''Right this way.'' A girl curtsies as she opens the door. ''Mr. and Mrs. Aldaine.''

'"Actually, I'm still Miss Canterbury.'' I inform her, holding back a giggle.

''I'm so sorry-'' She splutters, unsure of what to say.

''It's perfectly alright. You didn't know.'' I smile gently. I'm rewarded with a quick smile before she turns to lead us to her Alpha. She guides us to a small, cozy office, ready with two chairs. A short balding man sits behind a desk, cluttered with papers and a gorgeous, stained glass lamp.

''Will you be wanting something?'' She asks politely.

''Two water, please.'' Ryker takes over, using his commanding Alpha voice. He looks at me for confirmation, and I nod. She dips her head respectfully and exits the room.

''Mr. Aldaine.'' The man says nervously. It gives me a bit comfort that he seems to be as nervous, if not more, that me.

''Call me Ryker.'' Ryker nods. Under most circumstances, this would cut through tension, but the way he says it is intimidating. The man nods quickly.

''And, the lady wishes to be called?''

''Kimbriella.'' I smile, making an effort to be charming and friendly.

''Hello, miss.'' He smiles back, seeming a bit more at ease.

''So, ah-'' Ryker hesitates. ''What's your name again?''

''L-Lawrence.''

''Lawrence.'' Ryker rolls the name around his tongue. ''I hear you've been making a bid for our land.''

''Y-yes.'' Lawrence stumbles over his words.

''Why?''

''B-because we feel it's rightfully o-ours.''

The same girl from before walks in with our drinks. I smile at her, and she smiles nervously back.

''Right fully yours?'' Ryker pounds his fist on the man's desk, shaking it so hard to lamp falls off and hits the ground, the glass shattering into dozens of tiny pieces. ''What on earth would give you the impression-''

''Ryker.'' I interrupt quietly, rubbing his back gently, as he had done minutes before. He shuts his mouth, taking deep, calming breaths. Lawrence gives me a grateful look. ''What he means to say is that his land has been Aldaine property for many years, and we don't quite understand why you want the land. Also, we will be quite wiling to replace that lamp with one of at least equivalent quality.''

''Thank you.'' He smiles thinly. ''We were simply looking to expand our territory.''

Ryker opens his mouth to speak. Strategically, I place my hand on his shoulder in warning. ''I suggest.'' He says, voice barely concealed hostility. ''That you expand someplace that isn't on our territory, or else.''

''What he means.'' I insert my own, kinder twist. ''Is that if you could possibly expand in a difference direction, we would be extremely grateful. We don't want to take action, but we will if we have to.''

''We will back off.'' He nods fiercely.'' You won't find us bothering you again. We would love if you might visit again, with the lady, ofcourse.''

''Absolutely.'' I smile sweetly. ''We would be honored. Thank you for your time.'' I tug Ryker out of his chair, escorting him out.

''Thanks.'' He mutters, raking a hand through his dark hair.

''For what?''

''For handling it better than I would've. For helping me not rip that man's head off.''

''Shh..'' I hush him, glancing around. Panicking for his anger, I do the rational thing. Kiss him and make him shut up. A simple peck on his lips silence him.

''We'll talk in the car.'' I promise him, shutting the door behind us.

''Deal..'' He pecks my cheek. ''We would be honored. You suck up.''

''It worked, didn't it?'' I hiss, slapping his arm.

''It was only because you're pretty.'' He pouts, opening my car door for me.

''Awh, don't worry. You're pretty too.'' I assure him. He glares at me, and I giggle. ''Very pretty.''
