I moved to sit on the chair on the balcony as the sound of ringing echoed around me from my phone that was on speaker. The cool night air settled around me as I took another puff from my blunt, and just as I began to wonder if she had fallen asleep the call connected.
"Keys?"
"Hey," I greeted as I rested the phone on my thigh while reaching into my pocket with my now free hand for my lighter. "You wasn't going to sleep were you?"
"No,"
"I seen your text,"
"I know," She answered and I smiled while keeping the smoke trapped behind my lips for a second longer.
"You gonna be free all day Thursday?" I asked her, and there was silence for a bit, making me wonder if the time she spent left on read made her rethink the shit, but she ai—
"Yeah, why?" She answered, leaving me to step out of my mind.
"Cause I got sumn in mind," I answered vaguely while sending praises to the heavens that I ain't accidentally fumble the chance I been trying so hard for.
"What?"
"I wanna surprise you,"
"You can't cause you gon have to tell me where we going so I can drive to meet you," She said, destroying all my plans of secrecy and leaving disappointment behind, and I sighed, sending a burst of smoke through my nose. Then I replayed that shit, and hearing it again made me realise, I shouldn't have expected different.
"I still can't pick you up," I voiced more so to myself.
"No,"
"Okay, then Imma let you know right now I'm planning a little relaxation day, you seem to need a break and I need one too," I told her, and then shuffling sounded over the line, letting me know she was in bed.
"A relaxation day?"
"Yeah,"
"And what's that?"
"Can I atleast keep the details to myself?" I asked her and a gentle hum sounded over the line, probably one of the softest sounds I ever heard from her.
And I liked it.
"Okay, at least tell me how to dress?"
"Nothing fancy, something simple, just make sure you comfortable," I told her, and she hummed sleepily once again. "We good now?"
"Yeah,"
"Okay," I said, and I couldn't help but search my mind for something else to say since I knew there was a high chance she would end it if there was nothing, and I—
"Why you still up?" She asked, surprising me a bit but I pushed down the feeling as I gathered my words together.
"I'm not tired," I stated, but that wasn't true, I was exhausted, I just couldn't sleep, not even after a full workout with Dantae.
"A full day of work, and you're not tired?" She asked with disbelief, and I smiled at her question.
"Worrying about me again?"
"No, I'm just nosey," She mumbled tiredly, making me laugh as I brought my blunt back to my lips. "So how you not tired?"
"I get paid to watch people, you the on swinging on poles and stuff," I pointed out with a puff of smoke leaving with the words, earning a humor-filled sound from her, short and...soft. I liked it.
"The club been a lot calmer and safer since Sebastain made you the head of everything,"
"I told you it would be, didn't I?" I asked, looking down at my blunt whose effects began to seep into me while knowing it was the second time she commented on how good I was doing my job.
"Yeah, but people promise shit all day everyday,"
"I ain't people," I stated honestly, as I looked down at my phone, whose screen was now dark as it continued to sit on my thigh.
"So you say," She mumbled, and I enjoyed the soft caress of her voice into the night's silence as I finally used my lighter, lighting up the end of my blunt once again. "You smoking?"
"Mhm," I hummed as I continued to puff to aid the lighting.
"I wish I had some of that right now," She spoke and I smiled at her words while leaning back further into the chair.
"I can come drop you off a blunt, just send me your address and I'll—"
"You too big to play this much," She interjected, laughing as I tilted my head back, blowing the last of the smoke from my mouth.
"I only play around you...and it's because I like your laugh," I said, and silence—a second too long of silence that let me know she wasn't gonna respond, but the silence wasn't awkward which let me know I ain't do shit to make her uncomfortable, and knowing what I know about her, if I did, she would not still be on the call right now. "Why you not sleeping?"
"I have a lot of clothes orders to get through,"
"You start on my lil fit yet?" I asked her, and a chuckle came through once again as well as more shuffling then the sound of the aircon being adjusted.
"You really serious about that?"
'Yeah,"
"Okay, Imma make you sumn," She promised with the song of a smile playing in her voice.
"Do friends get a discount?"
"You sound like Silver," She replied, making me grin as a yawn sounded from her.
"You sound like you wanna sleep,"
"I do," She said, but I could feel she ain't wanna get off the call because that energy I was picking up from her was the same one circulating me, but I wasn't sure when I would sleep, and I didn't...I ain't wanna talk about why I couldn't sleep, and if I kept her on the phone any longer we would end up doing just that.
"So I'll see you Thursday?"
"Yeah,"
"Goodnight, Pulsion,"
"Goodnight, Keys,"
