Part 201: how opposites meet - a Shadilver story

"You came back!" Casper shouted happily as Espio and Silver entered the dining hall. It wasn't as busy as before as it was already pretty late and most children had already finished their desserts. Most of them were playing in the living area while the volunteers helped the younger ones get ready for bed.

"Well, I promised you, didn't I?" Espio said with a sweet smile, and booped the spot where Casper's horn would grow in a about a few months. Silver quietly took their place at the table and watched them interact.

"Yes, you did," Casper said, and hugged him tighter.

Charmy, who sat opposite from Silver, tilted his head curiously, "Who are you?"

"Oh, hey," Silver said awkwardly, "I'm Silver. Espio's my boyfriend."

Charmy raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Wow, are you a hero too?" He asked excitedly.

Silver chuckled awkwardly but shook their head, "No, sorry, I'm not. And who are you?" They asked interestedly.

"The name is Charmy," He said with a bright smile.

"He's my new friend," Casper said as he took his seat and Espio sat down next to him.

"That's so nice," Silver said with an endearing smile, "How long have you been here for?"

"Just a few days," Charmy said, and took a mouthful of the ice cream that stood in front of him.

Espio frowned as he heard that, "Where is it you come from?"

Charmy shrugged his shoulders, "Just some house," He said nonchalantly, not wanting to give too many details. "I was there with a few other friends. It wasn't as nice as here, but this week the police took us away."

Espio and Silver made swift eye contact, as they both thought the same: He must've come from one of the operations the police took down.

"Did you get hurt?" Espio asked concernedly.

"Hah! Hurt," Charmy said with a chuckle. "They wished." Espio tilted his head curiously as he looked at Charmy's mischievous grin, "I stung them all," He said and stood on the bench to wiggled his butt to show off his stinger.

Casper looked at Charmy with a bright impressed smile, "That's so cool."

Espio chuckled but Silver frowned, "Can't bees only sting once?"

Charmy's cheeks turned pink, "Prove it," He said daringly, and pointed his spoon threateningly towards Silver. "You think I'm lying."

Silver looked from the spoon to Charmy and back.

"I think that was very brave of you," Espio said and lowered Charmy's spoon. He looked meaningfully to Silver.

"Oh yes, of course," Silver said suddenly, "I was mistaking it with wasps," Silver said with a nervous chuckle. Charmy nodded daringly and sat down to continue eating his ice cream.

"You're so cool," Casper said to Charmy in awe.

"I know," Charmy said with a chuckle and a wink.

Espio looked around the table to see if there was some food left. He saw a plate with some leftover buns and a pot with cooled down soup.

"Here," He said with a sweet smile towards Silver as he had filled a bowl with the soup and passed it to them. "It may be cold, but it's still good to eat."
