The warm water of the shower dropped down and soaked their bodies while they held each other in a tight embrace. The tension between them had lifted and washed away with the water underneath them.
Silver pulled away carefully and looked up into Espio's eyes. "I really am sorry."
"Shh," Espio hushed, "We put a pin in it, remember?" He said with a handsome smile which quickly changed into a worried frown. As he looked down at Silver, he noticed how thin they were. Because their fur was flattened by the water, the contour of their body was revealed and made them look thinner and more fragile. "When was the last time you ate?"
"I had some grapes yesterday."
"Properly," Espio added.
"Oh," Silver said with a gulp and thought, "Saturday, I think," They answered doubtfully.
"When we are done showering, I will reheat your dinner and I want you to eat it," He said a little sternly.
Silver lowered their head, "But I'm not hungry."
"Silver, I don't care if you're hungry or not. You haven't eaten properly for four days. I'm worried about you. I understand everything with your caretaker is stressful at the moment, but I don't want you to get worse."
Silver gulped, but nodded slightly.
"Good," Espio said caringly, "I'm not saying this to torture you, okay? I'm just worried about your wellbeing."
Silver scratched their arm uncomfortably but nodded, "I know."
"What's that?" Espio suddenly asked in shock, and took Silver's hand to examine it.
"Just a little scratch," Silver said and wanted to pull their hand back, but Espio didn't let go.
"What did you do?" He asked.
Silver let out a sigh and looked shamefully down, "I hit the mirror in the restroom at school," They said carefully, without looking up at him.
"Oh Silver," Espio spoke endearingly, looking closer at their hand and carefully brushing their fur away. "It looks like there are still small pieces of glass in it." He took the nearest towel and carefully dabbed their wound dry. Silver bit their lip in pain. Espio removed their cuff as he noticed something, "Your wrist is all sore," He said, as he could see purple bruises around their wrist. "Maybe we should go to the hospital?"
Silver quickly shook their head, "That's not necessary," And looked at their own hand, "Maybe I could get it out with my powers," They suggested and nodded to their other hand, meaning if he could remove their other cuff as well.
Espio nodded and removed the other cuff. He watched as Silver closed their eyes and concentrated on their wound. They held their right hand above the other and their symbols started to glow. A small smile appeared on Espio's muzzle as he could see tiny pieces of glass rising from their wound. Silver winced as it hurt them, blood dripping from their hand as the shards got removed. Silver lowered them and let them disappear down the drain. They opened their eyes and looked at Espio.
"You keep impressing me," He said with a proud smile, Silver smiled weakly back at him. "Let's finish showering and I will clean your wound after." He turned to get the shampoo to clean Silver's quills for them.
Silver watched how the blood dripped down their hand. Suddenly they felt dizzy and their muzzle turned pale.
"Coconut or lavender?" Espio asked as he looked at both the bottles of shampoo.
"Es-" The curtains ruffled and a bang was heard. Espio quickly turned around in shock to see Silver unconscious on the bathroom floor. His eyes widened and he quickly got out from under the shower.
