Adam's POV
I didn't realize I'd fallen asleep on the couch while watching a movie and waiting for Justin to come back from his night-out. Today was his birthday, but... understandably, he didn't want to celebrate it. He was still hurting after what happened to him and Cynthia a month ago, and it was so hard for me to see just how much she had broken him. Long gone was the Justin Kroma I used to know. The always-laughing, risk-taking, pun-making always-one-to-come-up-with-good-pranks Justin. The funny, energetic, positive-thinking Justin every single one of our fans loved. I began to tear up just thinking about how much Justin had changed ever since Cynthia left. I missed him. I just wanted him back.
My thoughts were interrupted when I realized it was getting very late. Justin didn't really want to leave the house at all tonight, but he did, anyway, just so he could get Cynthia out of his mind for a bit. He left the house at around 8pm and dropped me a quick text saying: "Won't be long. Be home by around 10pm." 10pm? But it was almost 11. Justin had always stayed true to his words. When he said he would be with you at whatever time, he would arrive exactly at the time he mentioned. But tonight, he didn't. This was so not like him. I mean, if he changed his mind about returning at 10, or if he got caught up in traffic, he would have told me. He didn't. I suddenly got the chills. Something felt... off.
I let a few more minutes pass by before grabbing my phone to text Justin. My hands shook with worry as I typed and sent him my message.
Adam: Hey, Justin! You good, bro? Thought I'd message you to see how you're doing. You said you'd be back by around 10. I'm just worried because it's 11pm and still no sign of you. Hope everything's okay, man. Text me back, okay?
Justin: (no response)
Adam: (a few minutes later) Hey, Justin! Did you get my message? Please, do text me back. I'm worried about you.
Justin: (no response)
Adam: (almost 30 minutes later) Justin, look. If you don't wanna come back home yet, that's fine by me. But do text me. I just want to make sure you're okay.
Justin: (responds with an address to a nearby hospital) Come over to this hospital. Will explain everything later.
Wait, what? Justin was at the hospital? B... why???
Right after reading Justin's message, I wasted no time. I ran out of his house and hopped into my car, heading straight to the hospital. I didn't even bother locking the door. Out of nowhere, I started crying. So much so, that I struggled to keep my eyes on the road. While driving to the hospital, all I kept muttering under my breath was: "Please, Justin! Please, be okay! I'll be there soon!"
It took me approximately ten minutes to get to the hospital, and as soon as I did, I rushed in, bumping into someone as I did so.
"Adam!" the person I bumped into exclaimed. I looked up to see a familiar-looking guy standing in front of me. I just didn't know where and when I saw him. When he introduced himself, I realized he was a fellow-YouTuber. "I'm DJ Cook. Good thing you're here."
"Hi, DJ! Sorry, would love to stay and chat, but I gotta go see Justin. Do you know which room he's in?" DJ nodded.
"Yeah. I do. But I have to warn you, he's not doing too well, Adam."
"Oh gosh! no!" I said, starting to tear up again: "DJ, what exactly happened?"
Then, DJ told me everything. He told me how he met Justin at the bar. How they got talking after Justin found out that he and DJ were going through the same heartbreak and they were played by the same girl. And how Justin suddenly felt unwell and fainted right in front of him. I felt sick just hearing DJ's story. It reminded me of the time when I witnessed Justin passing out in the middle of filming one of our videos. I was sick with worry as I carried him out of our recording studio and rushed him to the Doctor's. He was ill with a high fever, and was monitored by the Doctors for weeks. They told me it could be because he was fatigued, or just needed a break from making YouTube videos. I looked after him until he got better. But, it seemed as though he might have fallen ill again.
Moments later, I was met by the Doctors, who quickly led me to a room full of medical stuff. Then, I was led to a hospital bed, where Justin lay unconscious. I quickly approached him, taking his hand in mine.
"How long has he been like this?" I asked one of the Doctors.
"He's been like this since he was taken in," the Doctor said, "But don't worry. He'll be okay."
"Is he sick?" The Doctor shook his head.
"No. We did check whether or not he had a temperature, or anything, but he didn't. However, we did find a heavy dose of sleeping pills in his system, which we got rid of, using the best medication we have at hand. He might be dazed and confused for a while when he wakes up, but he's okay. Right, we'll leave you to it. Call us if anything comes up." At that, the Doctors were gone, leaving me alone with Justin. I stood by his bed, trying to process what one of the Doctors just told me. Sleeping pills? Was Justin trying to... no. He would never. Yes, he was in a deep depression right now, but, nn. He wouldn't do such a thing. I still had a question in my mind, though. If Justin had been unconscious since he was brought in here, who responded to my message? DJ probably did. He probably used Justin's phone.
I didn't sleep at all that night. I just stood by Justin's bed. Holding his soft, delicate hand. He looked so peaceful. so... adorable. gosh, I loved him. But I knew that now wouldn't be the right time to tell him this. I'd wait until his heart was healed.
"I'm right here, Justin," I whispered, tears rolling down my face, "not sure if you can hear me, or not, but I'm right here and... And..." I couldn't finish my sentence as I broke down crying. I went closer to Justin, hugging him as tightly as I could. "I... love... you... Justin!" I sobbed: "Please! Wake up! Don't leave me!" Then, I did something I pprobably shouldn't have done. I gently turned his head so he was facing me, put my lips next to his, and... I kissed him. Just as I was about to pull away, I felt him move slightly. I froze for a moment, thinking he'd caught me kissing him. But he didn't. Yes, he was awake, but when he opened his eyes, he looked straight through me. The Doctors were right. He would be dazed and confused for a while. I kept hugging him, but I didn't kiss him again. I felt like I was taking advantage of him, and I'd never want to do that.
(Bruh! Adam almost got caught in 4K right there! Not too fast, Adam. The lovely readers still need to know who the suspect is behind Justie's sudden illness. Stick around for that, y'all. LOL!)
