Justin's POV
Today was January 11 2023. My birthday. The day I should be celebrating. The day I should be happy. The day when I should be out and about. But I was neither. I wasn't celebrating. I wasn't happy. I wasn't out and about. I didn't feel like it. It had only been a month since I lost Cynthia to another guy, and the wound in my heart had neither healed, nor stopped bleeding. I didn't think it ever would. Would I be sad forever?
My birthday was instead spent inside my house for the very first time. I couldn't care less.
"Happy birthday, Justin," Adam greeted me. He held me in his arms before carrying on: "Mom's coming over later. She heard about what happened, and..."
"Adam," I interrupted him.
"Yes, Justin. What is it, bro?"
"Can we please not talk about Cynthia? And, about Mrs McArthur, I don't want her to come over. Not that I don't want to see her. I just really want to be alone right now. Please, Adam. I hope you understand." Adam placed his hand on my back, gently stroking it.
"I totally understand, bro," he whispered, comfortingly, "we can just celebrate your birthday with just you and me. But for now, you need to get some rest. You haven't had any sleep ever since... you know what I mean. I'm really worried about you."
"I know," I said, resting my head on Adam's chest and closing my eyes. He held me tighter. And before I knew it, I was out.
A few hours must have passed before I woke up, finding myself still in Adam's protective arms. He looked at me, like I was a piece of gold.
"Alright?" he asked, soothingly: "You were so fast asleep. I was gonna put you to bed, but I was worried I was gonna wake you up, so I decided I'd hold you until you woke up. Hope you didn't mind." I laughed a little.
"Thanks, Adam. I feel a bit better now. I really needed that sleep."
"You sure did. So, what you wanna do for the rest of your birthday?"
"You know what? I might go out tonight. I realized that the more I choose to stay indoors, the more I have the tendency to think about Cynthia. I wanna forget all about her. Even if it's only for one night." Adam nodded.
"Want me to go with you?"
"No. It's okay. I'll be fine."
"Alright. Just be safe, okay? Drop me a message if anything goes wrong."
I left the house at around 8pm. I headed to a nearby bar, planning to grab a few drinks. I wasn't planning on getting absolutely wasted. Just something to occupy my mind. As soon as I entered the bar, several customers looked up from their tables and started looking my way. I looked down, not wanting to catch anyone's eyes. I quickly made my way to the counter and ordered myself a glass of wine. The bar-tender eyed me up and down, trying to figure out whether or not he knew me from somewhere.
"Justin from LankyBox?" he gasped, handing me my drink: "What brings you here, young man?" I ignored him. It was none of his business. But he carried on talking. "Sorry for asking. It's just that, since your YouTube channel is for literal two year-olds, I gathered you'd be more responsible. You coming here for a drink tells me otherwise." I stayed quiet. I would avoid confrontations as much as possible, especially with a hater. So, I just took my glass of wine, and found a quiet table.
I was halfway through my drink, when someone sat down on an empty chair next to me.
"Hey, dude!" he said: "Drinking alone?" I turned to look at the guy trying to talk to me. I felt like I was going to be sick. It was him. The guy Cynthia cheated on me with. Well, wasn't that just great? Just as I thought I'd be able to get my mind off Cynthia, I met the very person that would remind me of her. Perfect! Just fucking perfect!
(Wow! This is getting rather intense now. What would happen next?)
