"I'll be back soon!" You wave goodbye to Yoriichi who watches you as you begin to leave. For the very first time he's allowing you to go to a nearby village. He's quite nervous about it since he can't go with you due to obvious reasons. He can only hope that your training paid off enough for you to get there and back safely.

You're extremely excited to leave your new home for the first time. For three years you've been cooped up in one place unable to leave since your 'vision' wasn't good enough yet. It took a long time for you to convince Yoriichi to allow you to head to the nearby village which is roughly a two hour walk away. Unfortunately it's not your old village as he didn't tell you how to get there.

The walk to the village goes by quickly because of your excitement. In no time at all you find yourself surrounded by buildings and people. You can sense general outlines of things through your bare feet such as shapes and sizes of things. The only way to get any real detail is through touching it or having someone describe it to you. So, right now everything just looks like different sized blobs. Thankfully it's easy to differentiate between humans and inanimate objects.

Sensing someone to your left, you go up to them, making sure to have a friendly smile on your face. "Excuse me?"

"Huh?" The person turns around to face you. Your smile falters at their sharp intake of breath before they step away from you without another word.

Unfortunately everyone you encounter reacts the same way. Scurrying off once they see your bandaged and scarred face. One thing Yoriichi always refused to describe was your own looks. You yourself also haven't managed to work up the courage to touch your face in fear of what you'll feel. These strangers reactions are only solidifying that fear.

Sighing sadly, you move to sit down on a bench. You've approached at least a dozen people already and not a single one was kind enough to help you. Being isolated from the rest of the world made you forget how cruel and judgmental people can be. Even as a child you witnessed such things often enough to understand. What you didn't understand was why people were so cruel to others. Are they not human too despite their differences?

You lose track of time as you sit on the bench lost in thought. Hours pass by without notice until the sun is no longer in the sky, instead being replaced by the moon. As you sit there with your feet pressed to the ground you sense a familiar shape down the road from you.

Without a second thought you rush off towards the figure, slowing down once you reach their side as you grab their hand with your own. You tilt your head in confusion the second you do, though. "Hm? You're not Yori."

The stranger stares down at you, taking note of your bandaged eyes. "Let... go."

You squeak as you instantly release his hand before bowing. "I'm so sorry! I thought you were someone else!"

He watches as you profusely apologize, eyes scanning over your form. There doesn't seem to be anything special about you except for your blindness and lack of shoes. However, despite this you managed to sneak up on him without him realizing until you grabbed him. That alone is pretty concerning. He was ready to kill you the second you touched him but he was caught off guard once he actually saw you.

"Who... are you?" He finds himself questioning.

"Ah! I'm (L/N) (Y/N)! It's a pleasure to meet you!" You bow once again.

"Why... are you... here?"

You give him an awkward smile as you rub the back of your neck. "This is my first time coming to a village since I lost my sight. I wanted to shop for some stuff but everyone kind of ignored me."

He instantly takes notice of your sadness, your smile twitching to a frown against your will. "Do you... need... help?" That wasn't what he wanted to say but it came out before he could stop it.

Your mood instantly brightens as you flash him a smile that could rival the sun- a sight he hasn't seen in many years. "Really?! I don't want to be a bother! I promise I can manage on my own!"

"It's... fine." It's most certainly not fine! He's supposed to be here searching for a flower not helping some blind girl go shopping!

You shyly grab his hand again, mentally cheering when he doesn't make you let go. With a gentle tug you begin to lead him around, blabbering about random nonsense as you stop at random stalls that aren't even open. In your excitement to finally wander around you fail to notice the lack of other people.

Stopping at the final stall, you ask him what is being sold. He says nothing as he steps towards the stall, leaving you standing there alone for a moment. After a few minutes you feel a light weight over your shoulders and upon touching the object you discover it to be a haori.

"Did you pick this out for me?" You tilt your head as you slip your arms through the sleeves. He simply stares at you, taking in the sight of you wearing a haori similar to his kimono. It's not the exact same but it's quite close.

"I must... go." With that he disappears, leaving you to head home on your own.

By the time you get back it's long past midnight. The second you step onto the engawa the front door flies open, revealing a worried Yoriichi. "What took you so long? Was there trouble? Are you okay?"

You laugh, waving off his concerns. "Nothing happened, I promise! I actually got some help from a new friend! He picked out this haori for me!"

Yoriichi eyes the haori, a ping of familiarity going through him. "What was his name?"

You pause before grasping your hair in despair. "I totally forgot to ask for his name!"
