Surviving the week with Zenitsu was harder than you expected. During the day, the boy would practically cling to you, always jumping at every noise he heard. You questioned why he was even there if he was so terrified and he explained that he was there because he owed a debt to an old man that took him in after a girl ran off with all of his money. You felt bad once you heard that and decided to take pity on him despite how annoying his screeches of fear were.

Things were a lot better during the night. You discovered that while sleeping, Zenitsu was able to perform the first form of his breathing style without problem. It took you a bit to realize what was happening but upon hearing his snoring after he killed a demon before you could even react, you put two and two together. You decided against telling him of your discovery since it seemed he was unaware of it and that he wouldn't believe you to begin with.

You're beyond relieved once the week is finally over. You've spent the entire week worrying about Tanjiro and now that the Final Selection is complete, you can finally find out if he survived. You know he's likely just as worried and curious about your own survival.

Making your way back down the mountain hand in hand with Zenitsu, you both arrive at the same place where you started from. You instantly sense Tanjiro nearby and relief floods you, your shoulders sagging as if a weight has been lifted from them. You try to go towards him, but find yourself glued to Zenitsu's side as his grip on your hand is tight and unrelenting. Knowing he's likely still shaken from the experience you allow him to hold onto you for just a bit longer.

You stand in silence next to Zenitsu as you both listen to the children congratulate you all on making it until the end before moving on to explaining what all needs to be done before you're allowed to depart. First on the agenda is receiving your Kasugai crows. You listen as a multitude of birds come swooping down, instinctively holding up your arm so yours has a place to land.

"I thought they said we were receiving crows?" Zenitsu mumbles, and it takes a moment for you to sense the much smaller bird resting on top of his head.

Giggling softly, you reach up at softly trace your finger down the back of your crows head. "Perhaps they thought a smaller bird would be better suited for you."

The boy grumbles under his breath in annoyance, upset that you think he deserves a small sparrow instead of a crow like everyone else. You ignore his grumblings as you focus your attention back on the children.

You startle slightly when another boy starts yelling, pisses that he has yet to receive his color changing sword. You nearly intervene when he moves forward and grabs one of the children by their hair, roughly pulling on it as he demands the blade. Not so surprisingly, Tanjiro intervenes before you're able to, warning the boy to release the child. When he doesn't, there's the slight sound of bones crunching and you cringe knowing that Tanjiro has broken his arm.

Thankfully everything gets back on track shortly after that, and after going through everything else that needed to be done you all finally got to step forward and choose which ores you wanted your swords to be made out of.

At this point Zenitsu has finally released you so you waste no time at all taking your spot next to Tanjiro where you slip your hand into his, giving it a gentle reassuring squeeze. He lets out a silent sigh and you know he's just as relieved to have you by his side again as you are him.

One by one the remaining slayers go up to pick their ore until it's your turn. You have a slight disadvantage as you're unable to examine the stones in order to see their differences so you have to rely solely on touch and instinct.

Reaching forward, you carefully run your fingers over the many different ores, feeling the slight differences in textures and temperatures before stopping over one that piques your interest the most. Smiling softly, you pluck the stone from the table before handing it over to one of the children so they can have it delivered to your swords smith.

The walk back home is filled with you and Tanjiro filling each other in on what happened during the week. He tells you of how he failed to get any information on turning Nezuko back into a human and you feel bad that you completely forgot about doing that due to being distracted by Zenitsu. Tanjiro also informs you that he discovered Sabito and Makomo were deceased, and that he managed to kill the demon that took their lives.

You tell him of how you found Zenitsu shortly after the two of you separated and that you spent the week protecting him as he was extremely scared and nervous. Tanjiro, unbeknownst to you, grows a bit irritated at the thought of someone inconveniencing you so much despite them doing so just to survive. He also might just be jealous that this random boy got to spend the entire week with you, and that the boy got to see your breathing technique before he did.

The rest of the walk home goes by quickly despite Tanjiro's injuries. At some point during the journey the pain kicked in and it became extremely difficult for him to walk so you had to wrap his arm around your shoulders in order to act as a crutch for him. It was a bit difficult but you refused to allow him to struggle on his own.

Just as the two of you crest over the hill leading to Urokodaki's home you hear a loud bang. It startles you just enough for you to release Tanjiro but he doesn't seem to mind as he's soon rushing down the hill despite his injuries. You smile as you realize that Nezuko has finally awoken after two long years.

The reunion is filled with tears, and even Urokodaki joins in on the group hug right after pulling you to join as well. You know the older man is extremely relieved and overjoyed that his students finally returned to him after losing so many of them. You're relieved that the both of you returned as well, and you're extremely grateful to Urokodaki for taking all of you in.

You're excited to see what awaits you on your journey of being a demon slayer.
