Three years passed by since Yoriichi began trying to teach you how to use sun breathing. He taught you the basics of each form and you practiced them all relentlessly. Despite this, you still have yet to successfully pull off a single move.
It was one cold fall morning when you woke up to find Yoriichi gone. He was always there when you woke up in the mornings so it was confusing when you woke up alone. At first, you figured he was just busy doing something but as the days passed he still hadn't returned.
By the time winter rolled around, you gave up on the idea that he would ever come back. So, instead of sticking around waiting for him, you decided to leave and go traveling. There was still that lingering fear of villages and people treating you harshly, but at this point nothing would stop you from experiencing life outside of that tiny cabin.
Yoriichi's sudden disappearance without a word was definitely extremely upsetting. At first you were scared that something happened to him but as time passed those thoughts turned to wondering if he simply grew tired of you. If he grew tired of training someone as talentless as you.
That's the real reason you chose to leave but pretending that you left to experience an adventure made things feel less depressing. Despite knowing that it's highly unlikely, you can't help but to feel the way you do. You can't help but to think that he abandoned you since you couldn't learn his breathing style. Because you weren't good enough.
Yoriichi has never given you a reason to feel this way yet your insecurities scream that it's the only possible explanation. Why else would he suddenly leave without a word? Why would he abandon you after all these years without so much as a goodbye?
As much as you don't want to, you blame yourself entirely for him leaving. If only you were good enough, he would've stayed. If only you could master his breathing technique, he wouldn't have left you.
These thoughts stayed in your mind every step of your travels. You can't truly enjoy the feeling of wandering to new places knowing that you're alone while doing it. Without him by your side, everything new just seems bland and boring. Not having someone to share the excitement with makes it feel underwhelming.
The longer you travel the more you regret leaving home. What if you jumped the gun too fast? What if he was going to return soon and you chose to leave before then? What if he came home only to find you gone and is worried about you?
But what if he came home and simply didn't care? Did he ever truly care about you? Was it all pretend just so he could find a successor to his breathing technique, only to leave once he realized you weren't the right choice? Did he fake everything?
Huffing in annoyance, you try your best to push the thoughts away. You hate thinking of him in such a way yet every time you try to think of something else those negative thoughts creep back in. All you want to focus on is enjoying your adventure and explore the places you've never been.
You're unsure how long you've even been walking but you can no longer sense the familiar feeling of the woods surrounding you. Now you're just surrounded by open fields and nothing else.
You passed through the village you first visited a while ago but didn't bother stopping. You lingered just long enough to try and sense if your unnamed friend was there but failed to sense him so you continued moving. There was no point in sticking around people who are disgusted by you if your friend wasn't there.
After that there hasn't been any other signs of a village. Just open fields with nothing more than wildlife filling them. It's peaceful. There's nobody to judge you, no voices talking about you behind your back. It's just the peaceful sounds of birds chirping and smaller animals scuttling about in the tall grass.
You could stay out here for hours and never tire of how peaceful and serene everything is. After a few more years of practicing, your ability to 'see' has improved exponentially. Instead of blobs, the figures you sense have actual shapes to them. It's still not enough to discern any actual features but you can sense the general shape of things.
People actually have the shape of people. Birds actually have wings and cats have tails. You can 'see' things clearer than ever before. You wanted to share the amazing news with Yoriichi but he disappeared before you got the chance to.
Now you're left to be the only one to be proud of what progress you made.
