Fifteen

After Tanjiro had awoken, the man introduced himself as Tomioka Giyu before telling the both of you to head to a man that lives on the foot of Mount Sagiri who is named Urokodaki Sakonji. After he left the three of you went back up the mountain in order to bury the deceased Kamado family members before leaving to head to Mount Sagiri as suggested.

The three of you walk hand in hand, you and Nezuko on each side of Tanjiro. You put your getas back on once the three of you were done burying the bodies so your senses have dulled quite a bit, meaning you have to rely on Tanjiro more. You hate wearing them, but you know that he prefers when you do since he always worries about you. And the last thing you want is to have him worrying about you after he just lost most of his family.

You all have been walking for a while and thankfully the sky has remained cloudy enough for Nezuko to be safe. However you and Tanjiro know that the sky won't remain cloudy for the entire trip to Mount Sagiri so you'll have to come up with a solution since you all plan on traveling during the day as it's much safer than traveling at night.

Tanjiro decides to leave you and Nezuko in a small cave as he goes to find something to carry his sister in. He tells you both to stay there and that he'll be back soon. You trust that he'll be able to find what's needed and return quickly.

After some time the clouds begin to clear up, allowing the suns rays to break through the sky. Nezuko, fearing the sun, digs a hole in the ground for her to hide in to keep her from accidentally going into the sun.

"Hmph!" Her voice is muffled as she reaches out of the hole, gently tugging at the end of your haori.

Chuckling, you oblige to her request and get into the hole with her. It's a bit of a tight fit but she seems quite happy to have you in there with her. Her arms wrap around one of your own, hugging it to her as she huffs happily. It's kind of cute how childish she seems now that she's a demon. It's definitely different from what you're used to.

The two of you sit like that for a while until Tanjiro finally returns. "Nezuko? (Y/N)?"

"In here!" You call out in reply, knowing he was likely a bit panicked when he couldn't immediately see either of you.

He tells you both to wait a moment as he fixes up the basket before entering the cave, setting it down in front of the hole the two of you are in. "Will you fit in here? I want us to travel during the day. I'll carry you."

You feel Nezuko moving next to you, releasing your arm as she climbs out of the hole and into the basket. You climb out of the hole as well, dusting yourself off of any dirty that might have clung to your clothes.

"You're too big." Tanjiro pauses as he thinks. "Nezuko, you're as big as an adult. Can you reverse that and shrink down?"

You hear a bunch of shuffling as Nezuko tries to fit into the basket. After a while she manages to shrink down enough to fit in it without problem. Tanjiro praises her before covering the basket and placing it on his back before grabbing your hand to lead you out of the cave.

The two of you walk for quite some time before Tanjiro stops to ask for directions. A very kind woman tells you how to get to Mount Sagiri but warns both of you to be careful as it was soon to be night time. Tanjiro reassures her before continuing on.

Once the sun sets Tanjiro allows Nezuko to exit the basket, going back to the three of you walking hand in hand. "There's a way station. There's a light on. Someone must be there."

As the three of you approach the building you begin to get a bad feeling. Without another word you kick off your getas allowing you to sense your surroundings. Inside the building you can tell that there's multiple people but it's obvious that all but one are dead. The one remaining is more than likely a demon.

"These mountain paths are dangerous! That traveler may be injured!" Tanjiro takes off before you can stop him, rushing towards the building with Nezuko in tow. Not having much of a choice, you rush after him.

"This is my territory! Get away from my feeding ground!" A chill runs down your spine as you listen to the demon, it's words confirming your thoughts on what it is. "Hm? Something's wrong here. Are you three human?"

The demon moves too fast for you to react, leaping through the air as it tackles Tanjiro out of the house. Thankfully, before it's able to really hurt Tanjiro, Nezuko jumps in and kicks it's head off.

"Tanjiro! You won't be able to kill it!" You call out, knowing his hatchet is basically worthless.

Tanjiro, now knowing he can't kill it, instead works on trapping it. He manages to pin it's bodiless head to a tree using his hatchet leaving it immobile. Nezuko sends it's body off of a cliff, ensuring that it won't be able to reunite with the head and heal.

The boy stands there as he hesitates, unsure what to do now since you told him he'd be unable to kill it. You remain silent, simply listening as a new person approaches. He's fast but you don't think he's a demon.

The sun soon rises and you turn away to make sure Nezuko is safe inside her basket. Once Tanjiro has her on his back, you grab your getas and run after him and the stranger, not bothering to put them on.

Tanjiro struggles to keep up with the person yet you do so effortlessly. Years and years of training greatly improved your speed and strength, and if you had managed to learn a breathing technique you'd likely already be a slayer. However, you're at least thankful that you are able to be by Tanjiro and Nezuko's sides during this journey.
