You and Tanjiro stand hand in hand amongst the crowd of other people preparing to take the Final Selection to become Demon Slayers. You both patiently listen as two children explain how the Final Selection works, them listing the rules and risks. It doesn't take them long to go over everything and soon enough everyone is heading up into the mountain past all of the Wisteria trees.

You try your best to stay next to Tanjiro but it quickly becomes difficult as he focuses on his task of questioning demons on how to cure his sister. It doesn't take long at all for the two of you to split up and you can only hope that he stays safe and that the two of you reunite at some point.

Having no choice but to go off on your own, you search for a place to set up camp for the first night. Being in a new environment is a bit difficult especially when the environment is filled with starving demons who want nothing more than to make you their next meal. There's also the problem of constantly hearing people screaming off in the distance, too far away for you to be able to make it in time to save them.

The first night is spent on edge as you try your best to sleep despite the constant danger lingering around you and the screams of people dying. It's almost impossible to relax enough to properly rest and you end up staying awake the entire night. You thought this entire thing would be easier but that was when you had Tanjiro by your side and you two could look out for each other. You're quickly finding that being alone is almost a death warrant.

It isn't until the third day that you finally run into your first demon. While searching for Tanjiro, you heard screaming that was surprisingly quite close to yourself. It sounded close enough for you to reach in no time at all so you didn't hesitate to take off in the direction of it. What you felt was two different shapes- a grotesque demon and a trembling human.

Radiant Breathing First Form; Glowing Arch

You waste no time in using your created breathing technique to slaughter the demon with an arch of glowing energy. You can tell the sudden beheading of the demon startled the poor person you just saved as they let out yet another high pitched scream.

"Are you alright?" You question, cutting off their screaming as they likely notice you for the first time. For a few moments the person simply stares at you, probably trying to register that they're looking at a person and not another demon because of your mask.

Your heart nearly leaps out of your chest when you sense their form growing rapidly faster before arms are wrapped tightly around your waist while the person sobs against your stomach. "Thank you so much! You saved me! You must really love me!"

You stand there completely stiff as your brain struggles to comprehend what's happening. You've never really experienced something like this before and you can feel your cheeks quickly growing warm. Unsure of what else to do, you simply lift your hand and pat the top of his head. "I couldn't stand by and simply listen to you die."

He finally pulls away, wiping away his tears with a few sniffles. "My name is Agatsuma Zenitsu."

"I'm (L/N) (Y/N)."

"You're going to stay with me and protect me, right?" The question catches you off guard as you weren't expecting him to ask you to stick with him.

"Of course." You agree, mostly because it's better to have backup than to be alone even if that backup seems to be unable to fight or protect themselves let alone another person. "Can you tell me what time it is?"

Zenitsu pauses, staring at you for a moment before it slowly dawns on him that your strange mask has no eye holes. Instead of questioning it, he quickly looks up past the trees. "I think it's getting close to nighttime."

"We should find somewhere to settle for the night." You turn and begin to walk away, Zenitsu rushing after you as he slips his shaking hand into yours.

The boy wants to ask questions but he knows he shouldn't. He wants to know why your mask has no eye holes. He wants to question why you're running around barefoot. How you're able to tell where you're going without being able to see. How you managed to kill a demon despite all of those things. But instead he remains silent, simply walking alongside you. He'll save his questions for another time. For now, the two of you need to make it to the end of Final Selection.

After a bit of walking you find a pretty decent place to rest. It's a nice sized clearing where you and Zenitsu will easily be able to lie down and rest. With there being space all around you, you'll easily be able to sense when something or someone approaches through the trees. You don't plan on sleeping. You'll allow Zenitsu to rest while you remain awake, guarding him from any threats.

🔅Zenitsu was so shocked at your sudden appearance that it took him some time to realize you were human. He was extremely relieved once he did.

🔅Zenitsu feels a bit embarrassed that you had to save him from a demon.

🔅Zenitsu is super nervous about spending the night with you, almost to the point of forgetting that you're both on a demon infested mountain.

🔅Tanjiro became extremely worried once he realized the two of you separated.

🔅When fighting the demon that killed Makomo and Sabito, Tanjiro wished that you had not run into the demon prior to him since you too are wearing a mask made by Urokodaki.
